U don't fear the SEC champions. Their first year in the league. Tennessee has been in the league for 25 plus years. I know we beat them at their place but thats just fuel for the fire. Oklahoma is going for 5 NCAA championships in a row. They are queens of softball until someone knocks them off and takes their crown.I would not fear Ou as much this year would rather play them than face Bahl.
I will stand by that. They may very well win it all again but they are not at the level they have been in the past.U don't fear the SEC champions. Their first year in the league. Tonight was just a mess from the start. Just let the moment become bigger than what it was. KP didn’t have the command she usually does and she just looked uncomfortable early on, I have not really been impressed with Morgan throughout the season (good average, but nothing outside of that) and why she ran half way across the field to attempt to catch that ball is beyond me, our hitters just look hesitant on whether they want to swing and when they do it’s more of a protection swing than an attack one. Definitely a super disappointing outing from the team in general, hopefully they can win it in 3
a big mistake and one she hopefully learns from.
Yes... it was a bad mistake. But it wasn't the worst mistake on the field during that play. And... at least she was showing hustle and effort. And @anecwnrjcns12 is correct... it was clearly Mealer's ball and she should have been more vocal in taking control on that play. That was mealer’s ball all the way, still confused on why Morgan was running after the ball so hard.
Those others weren’t involved in the play because it was a routine ball to SS. Nobody expected a D1 college player to make that mistake with two outs. No need to lay blame elsewhere. But at least she hustled.Yes... it was a bad mistake. But it wasn't the worst mistake on the field during that play. And... at least she was showing hustle and effort. But the biggest mistake on that play, imo, is that there were three other players on the field that should have been helping. Mealer is watching the ball, Morgan is running and watching the ball... but Dodge, Pannell, and Pickens are all infield observers and can see the whole fiasco taking place. Either one of them, or all of them, when they saw Morgan running in should have been yelling Mealer's name. If they would have done so, Mealer would have stayed on the ball and made the catch and Morgan would have backed off. Just because you're not involved in making a play on the ball, doesn't mean you're still not involved in the play.
And as for Pickens tomorrow, I hope they tell her to move the pitches around on her first pitch... and include a little more variety than just the fast pitch. It was clear the NE batters were stepping in the box ready to swing at the first pitch.
I'm not laying blame... I'm talking about responsibilities. As an infielder, not involved in making the catch, anyone of them (or all of them) should have seen what was getting ready to take place. All they had to do was yell a name, and they should have done so. They should be coached to do so.Those others weren’t involved in the play because it was a routine ball to SS. I will say Mealer should have been more demonstrative in calling for. But that cannot happen. We got away with it last week around third but not this time. Starting Pickens was the correct decision. You always start your Ace Game 1 of the series.Have not posted this year. Have never been able to watch the game and post at the same time.
I told my spouse that Karen would be fired if she didn't start KP because ESPN wanted the Bahl verses Pickens matchup. However, you had too know that Nebraska has had six days (school being over) to take batting practice. Nebraska not only dialed their pitching machine up to 75 miles per hour they turned the lights down. SM should have started. KP got ambushed.
Anyone see baseball last night against Texas? SEC pitcher of the year (Doyle) hit 100 miles per hour on the gun several times but gave up.4 runs. Texas started a Walter's Junior College kid for his first SEC start, who never hit 90 miles per hour but retired 12 in a row ( best I remember).
Not sure why we have reviews. Umpires' don't want to second guess umps in the arena.
ESPN also seems to want a Bahl verses OU matchup.
Since KP was not one of the top three players named for national player of the year, she seemed to be trying too hard to demonstrate that was a mistake. She seemed to be over throwing everything.
Saw KP in an interview a few weeks back on ESPN and she said playing for Karen had been the greatest experince of her life. She said Karen had taught her so much about life after softball. She is a special player and even a better person. Hope she can calm her nerves and play free. Our older players struggled at the plate today. Our younger players had better plate appearances.
I suspect this will go 3. Hope so!
You can’t gift 2 runs against Bahl when runs are a premium. At this stage as we learned last year, you can’t gift anyone in a super.I will say Mealer should have been more demonstrative in calling for. But that cannot happen. Our “best option” at SS, leader and senior in probably her 2nd to last game… needed to take charge and make that catch on a pop up. Everyone seems like they are more scared to mess up than make a routine play. I miss the good old days when harder plays were given much more scrutiny, you guys are getting soft.I will say Mealer should have been more demonstrative in calling for. But that cannot happen. You give up easy don't you. I call that being a BETA. These announcers love affair with Bahl is getting a little old
I agree with you…That is just been on a university campus way too long meaningless word salad… and contradicts KTP PTK.View attachment 744041
Honestly, if she has started this policy just for the post-season -- I don't know when this was said -- then she may be inadvertently creating more pressure by behaving differently than normal herself. If anyone senses she's trying to manipulate them by pretending that there's no reason to be nervous or feel any pressure, that could actually be worse than just emotionally owning the fact that there IS a lot of pressure at this point in the season, and you just have to put on your big-girl pants and move through it without pretending its not a BFD.
But maybe that's just me.
