Tennessee Softball 2025

If they are playing at Columbia State it's not a big place anyway. When my daughter played high school ball Columbia was in our district and that’s where we played when we had to go there. Columbia didn't have a high school field. They do have one now and it's on the back side of the softball complex. Maybe playing there.
It’s not at Columbia State, it’s at the Ridley Sports Complex, where they’ve had it since 2014. Seating for about 2000, plus standing room.

Does anybody know if there is any sort of television for the game tomorrow? I don’t see anything listed on the espn app. Thanks!
We will have an audio broadcast, but that is all. The logistics of a TV or streaming video broadcast are just too great at a neutral site.

For it to be picked up by SECN plus or ESPN plus, it has to be produced by a participating school that has a contract with ESPN. Doing a production off campus requires a TV truck, which comes with an expense of about $25,000. Tennessee has equipment and wiring inside the on campus facilities, plus a production room on campus that performs the same function, so that expense isn’t incurred at home. Then you would have the expenses of bringing in a crew and broadcast talent. It’s just not feasible for Tennessee to spend the money to do that for a single game.

Since it is a hard sellout every year, the local group that organizes the event every year looked into having one of the Nashville TV stations broadcast a few years ago, hiring a crew that does high school football in the fall. There was some interest, but if the game runs long, it runs into primetime programming, which they are not allowed to preempt for non-network programming.

It is unfortunate that these challenges exist, but having one game that is not televised is worth being able to play in front of a couple thousand people that don’t get to see Tennessee softball any other time, and it’s a big deal for the community.

Thanks for highlighting the difficulties of streaming. Is "live stats" in the same situation?

The game could be broadcast via YouTube with very little cost or overhead. I’m amazed when I see arguments that a broadcast from a neutral site is cost prohibitive. May not be espn quality, but certainly Flosports quality would be better than nothing. I get to view Oak Ridge high school sports of football, basketball (boys and girls) and baseball games via YouTube. The dedicated producer has been doing it for years and has trained up a staff of volunteers. Imagine that. They are currently in Gulf Shores, Alabama doing a baseball tournament via YouTube. They will be in Murfreesboro Thursday broadcasting the State Basketball tournament (radio only due to licensing restrictions).

I wonder why the guy on Sunday said they would be back for the broadcast Tuesday guess he was uninformed that it would not be streamed.

is it to much to be able to just hang a cell phone or GoPro on the fence. With technology nowadays it’s comical there’s no streaming.

Unfortunately, it’s not that easy. Perhaps I was unclear and explaining it, but if Tennessee takes the initiative to stream it, it does have to go through the ESPN platform and it does have to be produced to ESPN‘s standards for streaming broadcast. Which means a production truck. The other challenge in doing that, or any event for that matter, is that the park is not only not hardwired for Internet to send out the broadcast, but with that many people in a location that doesn’t have the large cell phone capacity of a larger area, we have trouble even getting a radio broadcast out of there using a wireless Internet card. Trying to use it for video is a real challenge, as I’m sure your friends have experienced when trying to stream a football game from a rural stadium.

If the organizers wanted to hire an outfit like your friend, that might be possible, but you still have the Internet issues, and someone has to provide the cameras and production equipment. Where your friends have all of that purchased to do entire seasons of football and other sports, this is a one off event.

It usually sells out about a month in advance, unfortunately.
Thanks for that. I’ll have to be quicker on the purchase next year. Any idea if we showed up later in the evening if we would be able to catch the players after the game for some autographs? Daughter really wants to meet Orsini and Sage.

Already bringing her up to Knoxville for a game later this spring.

Strange lineup but a lot of Coaches and Managers like to put their power hitter batting Ist. I really don't like it you need those players in front to get on give your power hitter a chance to drive them in.

Someone please help me, why is Pickens pitching today when we have three games against Arkansas this weekend???
we always pitch our ace in this game (the columbia tn one). it’s one where ppl all around tn come to watch our aces pitch. we pitched ashley when she was her and karlyn last year.

They are having technical difficulties. Top of first Pickens struck out two, walked a better, wild pitch to second, and then a ground out. 0 runs
