i'm no fan of luigi (auriemma), but i hope this doesn't come off as sour grapes on the part of pat summitt.

Chances are it will because people do not like individuals that do the right thing and snitch on individuals that do not play by the rules.

Of course Gino should have been reported. It is obvious after listening to ESPN sing Moore's praises all year as to why she was taken there. "And Miss Moore, these are the people who will promote you." (my quote) One of their announcers even suggested she should be selected player of the year. I wonder if UCONN arranged for her to tour the public TV station that announces all their home games or any of the other broadcast stations there. Why choose ESPN if there weren't some benefit for UCONN and for her? Too bad she has gotten caught up in this because she is a good player. But PS did the right thing. She does not want women's basketball to become like a lot of other sports when it comes to recruiting.

I mean really... who cares about cheating in women's basketball? Talk about taking themselves waaaayyy too seriously.

Has ESPN pulled Pat's commercial? Or is this the reason she got that gig?

I agree that rules are rules but we are talking about a mere parking ticket. I think we should move on from such petty stuff. We all know that ESPN is known for not being non-bias most of the time. I would have loved to see TN play UCONN this season. It's most unfortunate. Who's to blame?

Just more gas to the fire of this rivalry..All hell may break loose when they play each other next...Geno is an arrogant sob too...He's getting what he deserves

Let's get real... this is trivial. You can all talk about it till the cows come home. A slap on the risk is all that's going to take place. This would hold true with any other team in the country. It's a parking ticket folks.

I believe that's "slap on the wrist."

Maybe you see it as trivial but when espn becomes a recruiting tool there is something very wrong. Have you ever thought that maybe the beef is not with UConn so much as it is with espn? Not saying that is the case but I see a major conflict of interest here.

If roles where reversed Geno would have turned Pat in if she had broken rules.

Also it wasnt just Pat who turned him in it was the SEC.So if Pat hadnt they,or someone else would have.

UCONN Must be scared.I mean if your good why do you have to cheat to get players.

Disclaimer: Please refrain from the 'Yankee' and 'Traitor' replies, i am trying to put my opinion out on the thread. Naturally, I am a Lady Vols fan, one of 7 or 8, out of 3.5 million.

or three coaches who play by the rules

At the time of the visit, it was fairly common for recruits to get tours of ESPN, seeing as we don't have many "Points of Interest" here in CT. Outside of the Mystic Seaport (a museum about the whaling/fishing history) and the Battle of Ridgefield (where Benedict Arnold beat the snot out of a British raiding party), we have little to offer other than the 2 largest Casinos in the world, and they aren't exactly acceptable to a high school kid.

I've run into Geno a few times at the last place you can envision him, a redneck beer hall in Moodus. Probably goes there because nobody will know who he is. Doesn't seem like too bad of a guy, overall, though. Undoubtably, it will be portrayed as Sour Grapes, rightly so or not. Seeing as ESPN is involved, and they are the largest sports news outlet in the country, they will try to cast the best light as possible upon themselves.

I've actually thought ESPN has been rather suppressed about it all. They announced they would be changing their general touring policy, and basically just stated that Tennessee and the SEC are the people who reported UCONN. I have a feeling ESPN wants to keep a low profile on this as well.

for all of those wondering why pat cancelled the game.
here is one of the reasons why.
she knew this long before the school year started.
like when it happened.....the timing of the story is perfect for the ncaa tourney just trying to hype the tourney more....that is all......it was actually reported last spring

The point is that UConn arranged the tour for a recruit, which is against NCAA rules.

And for people that are saying this is stupid and trivial...I'm pretty positive Pat was trying to recruit her as well, and when the other school goes against the rules to get the recruit, she has a right to get angry.

The beef is actually in part from both sides. I think ESPN more so because (ESPN reporter) Shelley Smith wanted to do a story with Geno on Tennessee's coach Pat Summitt and his relationship with her as to why the series was canceled. Geno told the reporter to "go ask her, that he didn't cancel it". He didn't want to be involved in that story. Smith's reply was "Ok, we're going to report the violation". Geno told the report that "It's already been discussed and dealt with (last summer)". "I think ESPN wants to stir up interest before the NCAA Tournament starts and hope the two teams meet in the finals so to get ratings at the expense of Ms Moore". "All she (Ms Moore, a communications major) had to do was pick up the phone and call ESPN to ask for a tour". UCONN did in fact violate the rules by making that call but ESPN was more interested in ratings.

Can't argue with that. What I don't understand is why a sports network would let themselves be used in this way. It certainly doesn't help them look unbiased. That being said I believe they give Summit good exposure and treat her fairly ( they could treat her no other way because she is the standard womens coaches are measured against.) In the grand scheme of things this is not a huge violation but if it continued unchecked then it would be a huge problem. Summit plays by the rules and is a person of great character. She expects her peers to do the same. I have heard that there are other questionable if not illegal practices Geno has used that she is aware of and I do not blame her for discontinuing the series with UConn. It is bad for the game but so is this escapade with espn.
