Our offense performs so poorly it demoralizes and wears out our defense. When our offense is not flat out scoring for the other team, they are turning it over deep in our own territory. Then if they do get a series where they don't turn it over, they go 3 and out. You simply cannot win in any league in football scoring 24 points in ten quarters. It just does not happen.
That was an excellent article. You have to have a very good offense to be top team. Having an elite defensive team can slow down a good offensive team but no longer stops them. The newer rules trying to protect players really helps the offensive players, especially the passing game. Of course we have a defensive guru as coach and a mediocre offense.Read comments today from Saban saying today’s college game has completely changed. You cannor rely on a defense to win football games. The offenseshave to score lots of points to win in today’s game.
He saw the rules changing to advantage the offense. Hence, he benched an excellent QB in J Hurts to play a RS Freshman named Tua. He recruited burners for WRs. He improved pass protection from the Oline. He realized the elite teams that were beating him were outscoring him, not out defensing him. In today’s game the offense helps the defense instead of thepast when your defense kept you in games until the O score a few points. Years ago Power 5 teams rarely beat another Power 5 by 28-35 pts.
