According to the recruiting article below, we would fare better in a different conference.

What say ye VN experts if we were in the:
PAC-12
ACC
BIG 10
Or one of the other major conferences. Would we be playing second fiddle only to OSU, Clemson and/or maybe Fla St, Okla or would would we still be middle of the pack in those conferences?

I'll hang up and listen to your response(s).

We are one of the programs that made the SEC what it has become today. We will never leave.

We are the SEC

Though I agree, I feel Tennessee could have averaged 2 to 3 more wins per season in the past 10 years had they been in the Big 10 or ACC.

Why start a thread over an article that is three years old?

The SEC isn't nearly as dominant today as it was in the BCS era. In fact, the SEC was just the third- or fourth-best conference on the field in 2016. Only the B12 was clearly worse among Power 5 leagues.

Even in recruiting, where the SEC still reigns supreme, the 2017 class shows a Tennessee program that would only have the 4th-best class in the B10 (behind OSU, Mich, and Penn St) or ACC (FSU, Miami, Clemson), and only 3rd-best in the PAC (trailing USC and Stanford).

So the premise of this article, that we'd somehow be kings in any other conference, has been overcome by three years of the B10 and ACC, in particular, getting better and the SEC stagnating (outside of Alabama).

That's where we are today. Makes more sense to discuss that than the situation a half-decade ago.

I have a feeling the lack of in state talent and playing in a lesser conference would've impacted the kind of players we got. It'd be real easy to turn into UNC.

I honestly don't think I would love college football like I did if Tennessee played in any other conference. I would rather be 8-4 against the best teams than 10-2 against lesser competition. Granted I would rather be 12-0 against the sec

It was for this reason and more advertising $, that E$PN promoted and brought to life a play-off system. Teams that play weaker conferences will have a better shot in tournament time due to less injuries. When Alabama isn't stacked 3-deep in every position with 4*/5* players, this phenomena will be more evident.

Why would you want to spread this garbage? The SEC is it, and the only place for Tennessee. And they will be back at the top soon.

I like your line of reasoning, 74, but it doesn't hold up to scrutiny, since a lot of the SEC's losses to other conference teams on the field in 2016 came early enough in the year that injuries should not have been a major factor.

Fact is, we as a conference just stunk up the joint last fall. I'm hoping we get back to our collective dominant ways (with Tennessee one of the most dominant of all) in 2017 and beyond.

I think UT should start competing in a pee wee football league.
