Heupel is the betting favorite for Penn State job

Especially now that Golesh is heading to Auburn. I don't think Mullen would be a bad choice. Gruden,Dillingham would be another option and he could bring Leavitt with him. If Hartline had been OC a few years longer, he may could be a good option. He would bring elite recruiting and a great staff. Do I want Heupel gone, I'm fine with either. I just don't think Heupel would ever make the staff changes to get us into regular CFP discussions. JMO

Hartline won’t leave OSU.

Mullen wouldn’t be a good fit here imo.

Why? We do not want Golesh. Golesh is not the type of coach you hire to elevate a program to the next level. You hire him and Sumrall and others to rebuild a program. But you aren't hiring him to take over a stable program with the hopes of elevating it.

If Heupel bolts at this point-we would be begging for Golesh.

Many posters on here already do lol

There's Jack all left out there to hire by this point.

If Heupel leaves at this point-we would basically be in a very similar situation to 2009
Behind the 8 ball and having to hire an emergency coach.

I think Heupel is a bit more mature than Kiff and really has no reason to screw us over. We have made him a wealthy man. He would have back channeled a communication to Golesh to hold tight. It's the way things work man.

You aren't hiring Golesh with the hopes of competing right away. You know why the schools like Auburn and Arkansas were wanting him? Because they know he has a leash of 2-3 years before the he starts having to deal with expectations. Golesh coming to Tennessee would be expected to contend right away.... He has never been a head coach where serious expectations were placed upon him and that is what he would have coming to Tennessee if the job opened because Heupel left.

Also the idea we would be behind the 8 ball is dumb. The regular season just ended. If we had a vacancy tomorrow, we would be the only big program that has an opening because the coach left for another job and that coach that left would owe us $6-7 million that we could automatically use to towards the replacement. This would be NOTHING like 2009

I don’t expect it. But remember that nobody would’ve said Lincoln Riley would go to USC at the time, and he did.

I don’t even know who we’d hire, lol. Bob Chesney? Jedd Fisch? Mullen? Honestly I’d rather just take a chance on Will Stein than any of those three.

Brian Kelly is not a downgrade from Heupel.

As would I. But I think the majority would lose it. It would all be on the “negavols”.
Absolutely! It's always the negavols fault. There's some of our fans that are fine with mediocrity..8-9 wins a year. TN is and has been better than just being mediocre. If Heupel would do a full staff change, I'd be content give him a few more years. I just don't trust that he will

If it is me and Heupel left and Tennessee was handed a $6-7 million buyout check from Heupel, I'm calling Mullen and saying this is yours. Of course my dream candidate would be Riley. You have to think he somewhat regrets leaving OU and a steady schedule for USC and the PAC12 turned Big10 where he has to travel cross country 50% of the games every year.
