Tennessee football: 6-foot-5 running back Dee Beckwith is turning heads

Based on what Coach Mack stated, and with confirming reports by Austin Price, I just don't really see Beckwith being a factor in the RB rotation this season, barring some unforeseen circumstance. Mack definitively said that Small and Evans are the 1a and 1b. Then Price emphatically stated on the VQ podcast that the third guy in the room is Wright, because of his speed. Essentially, the VQ guys' takes are that Beckwith hasn't really picked up the position yet, and that he may not necessarily be the type of back that this staff is looking for. As Price stated, he is possibly too big to play RB in this offense, and not fast enough to play WR.

I don't know, but I personally didn't think that he looked very comfortable in the O&W game. I know that opinion isn't super popular. All that said, the kid is young, and he has plenty of time to mature physically (be it speed or muscle memory at hitting the hole with confidence), learn the position, and contribute. Let's hope that we find a way to maximize his skillset.
All that may be true but his potential flexibility could make him an asset if they were willing to design some things for him. Now may not be the time to create a package for one unique athlete... but he could line at RB, TE, HB, Slot, or WR. If you had him in with another RB then you'd guarantee that he drew a LB in pass coverage. I hope they find a place to use what he has.

I guess I'm in the too tall group.
I can't imagine why you would want a 6'5" running back.
I suppose if everyone else on your team is 7' tall a 6'5" RB would fit..
Otherwise I don't get it.

I do not see him as an every down back for four quarters or even in the mix, but if his speed and athleticism can be used as you just laid out, then he can keep the other team off balance when he enters and then he moves around while we are going FAST and they cannot substitute. He can create mismatches while running, blocking, or out on routes from any number of positions on the field. Full disclosure, if you go back to his recruiting threads you will find I was his biggest fan and consistently was trying to pull information from insiders of locals and the recruiting insiders as well. I held out for him and Wideman both.... One is gone, but I still believe he is a uniquely gifted athletically and can turn in game changing plays with the ball in his hands from several positions and by even creating holes with his movement or lead blocking. So my hopes are alive till they are not over the next couple of years..... he still has 4 to give and I like his chances.

He doesn’t want to
Don’t understand why he wouldn’t want to be . That’s the “It” position to play right now . Seems like a guy with his size and speed would be a natural fit at that position the way it’s being utilized now.

We are so stacked at RB that he won't even see that many carries per game. Less than 5.
One good thing about Heupel's offense is you spread the ball around, you can be successful with committees at the skill positions, and both things make it tougher on defenses.

Same reason Whitehead doesn’t want to play LB. You’d think they would based on depth. 🤷‍♂️
