It seems that Chaneys is a bit low IMHO. I would have thought it to be in the 600k range. What was his salary before dip**** left? Did CJC and CLT get a raise?

No kidding, HomeGrown. But they do get paid well and they do work very hard. I couldn't and wouldn't want to do it.

Bama:
-Again playing in Neyland with an unexperienced QB in a pro style offense, possibly running some wildcat? How did that offense work against UT last year @BAMA?!!

Bama will not be playing with an unexperienced QB if thats what you mean. Their QB from last year is returning from the best of my knowledge. He was only a junior last year.

However, Bama has some holes to fill on defense. They have to replace their entire D-line and some other significant spots.

I think we will get 8-9 wins in 2010 when it's all said and done. Our defense will be more experienced than last year. The QB and O-Line play are the real question marks. However, with this staff I'm not worried a bit.

Go Vols!

UT Martin, UAB, Ole Piss, Vandy, Memphis are all wins.

South Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia are all in the air at this point. KY is probably going to snap the streak this year.

Oregon could possibly come in and lay an egg but I doubt it.

I understand their QB is returning, but I don't think one year qualifies you as an experienced QB. I don't think that anybody would have labeled Casey Clausen or Eric Ainge as an experienced QB after their first years! I think it's important to remember that he has some good games, but by-in-large he struggled while being surrounded by talent! It's like I said;what did he do against us @BAMA? What's he supposed to do against us @NEYLAND?! Let's not downplay our homefield advantage.

Sounds like there's going to be a lot of disappointed Vol fans when the end of October rolls around. People's expectations are WAY too high. What in the world gives people the idea that this team will be able to go on the road and beat UGA or USCjr? It sounds like most folks are almost marking those down as wins already. There aren't any given wins in SEC play these days. Dooley and co. have enough of an uphill battle without rediculous, out of the park expectations. Again, it's not the mid-90's anymore, we don't win 9 or 10 games just because we show up to the stadium each Saturday. Adjust your expectations to coincide with reality, and this rebuilding process will be much easier for all of us. It's going to take SEVERAL years.

I can deal with slight disappointment better than I can deal with being content with sub-mediocrity. The final years of Fulmer's campaign conditioned me well for disappointment.

Kentucky beat the streak in Neyland? Not gonna happen.

Why is everyone willing to give Oregon, Florida, and Alabama up as given losses?

Oregon:
-Must fly across the country to play us at Neyland
-Will be playing against a DC that shut them down last year with less talent
-May very well be playing without a suspended starting QB and RB and definitely will be playing without one of their best LBs
-Our offense will be better under Chaney's sole direction; not to mention there is no way that our best WRs can all be injured to start another season?

Florida:
-Again playing in Neyland with a talented, but unexperienced QB in a pro style offense, possibly running some wildcat? How did that offense work against against UT last year @BAMA?!!
-Again, our offense should be better and Florida will have a ton of inexperience on defense!
-This will also be early in the season and Florida will have a difficult time preparing for Wilcox's defense, because he changed them from game to game at Boise State

Bama:
-Again playing in Neyland with an unexperienced QB in a pro style offense, possibly running some wildcat? How did that offense work against UT last year @BAMA?!! This year the QB will be less experienced and our LBs + DEs are more experienced!
-No Mt. Coy and our kicker has to be better this season! lol

***Don't anybody forget that if Palardy can kick the ball into the endzone like everybody has hyped him to be able to do, this will be a huge upgrade to our football team*** If every team we play has to go 80 yds. for tds after every UT score that is friggin' HUGE!!! That will improve our team exponentiallly! Let's just hope it's true!

Wish we had more fans on this board like you. You're not saying its 100% going to happen but you're atleast giving valid reasons on why it could happen. If we had Palardy last year we might have beat AL. Great post! Would love to see more positive people around here.

If we manage 9 wins this season- everyone will deserve a raise and extension!

9 wins with only one guy on O line back and QB gone main running back and Berry and Rogan and some on D line gone. Plus with the teams we play this year. 9 wins they ought to get lifetime contracts for all the coaches Oregon,Florida,Alabama,LSU,at Georgia,at So Carolina

It's hard to comment on a contract without seeing the entire thing. All of the pieces interact and work together. You may think the salary is too high, but we gave that to get a bigger buyout. You may think the buyout is too low, but we gave that up in order to be able to cut him loose cheap early if things don't work out. Six years is long, but maybe we gave him that to get a "Can't go to Georgia" clause.

I'm glad he's here - I'll wait until they post the cotract to pass judgement on how good a deal he was given.

As I think we should all know at this point, these days, contracts are worth about as much as the 8.5x11 paper they're written on.

I agree. The length of the contract means absolutely nothing. What matters is the size of the buyouts and I haven't seen those (are they even finalized yet?). If the last 3 years have a 100k buyout for both Dooley and UT than it's meaningless. Realistically, Dooley will never coach out this contract. If he's good enough to stay at UT six years he'll get a raise and extension (or leave). If he struggles he'll be gone long before then and the question will be how big a buyout UT will have to pay to make it happen.

No offense to Coach Dooley, but with his resume 1.8 Million is a lot of $$$ for him. IMO at this point, Dooley is worth no more than 1 Million until he proves himself as a HC in the SEC.

It's a shame, that Hamilton hired someone, that "has to prove themself"

That's really what bugs me most, too.

I'll admit that I'm glad to see the numbers are not as high as I thought. It'd be nice to see the buyouts on these. Still looks high for Dooley and Wilcox.

If Hammy has an easy way out in the short term, I'd feel a little better since I suspect we'll be needing an exit strategy.

If he can exit quickly and get a real staff, it'd be great to see a recovery period starting sooner rather than later.

I've read off and on , different sites since Dooley was hired. I don't think many, if any of you know him. I have known him, his family and his wife's family for over twenty years. What I'm about to state is an opinion based on years of observation, conversations, etc. The mess this program was in when he was hired makes the $1.8 very reasonable. You know about the players and what they've been through with the coaching changes but you have no idea of the shape of the internal structure of the program. It was as if common sense and reason never entered into any planning and there was no long range plan or outline at all. That issue, finding the right staff, meeting individually with each player, being present for the workouts, being sure the staff was working well together, reviewing all the info on the recruits for 2011, setting up Junior day, setting up spring practice schedule so as not to conflict with spring break, contacting recruits coaches and more, I'm sure, is what he has been doing. Re: recruiting, he is an evaluator 1st and if you heard/read his press conferences, you heard "I evaluate with my eyes, not my ears and not the internet".This is how you need to evaluate Dooley. He owes you a 1st class program run with integrity and above board. He owes you wins and trips to the SECC game and beyond. He does not owe you an explanation of what he is doing. He will not do anything to hurt the program whether it be recruiting or coaching. He is your coach and this is who he is. If this is not what you want, boycott the games and Hamilton will get the message. One more thing, he will not leave for Georgia or anywhere else unless he is asked to leave. Tennessee is now my favorite team!

I wouldn't count on it. By the time we play KY our team will have played through 11 other games together. Unless we have injury problems again this year and are severely undercoached I just wont believe KY will beat us this year. Not a bone in my body allows me to think of that. Infact in my entire life KY has only beat TN once and I was only months old when that happened.

Derek Dooley Head Coach 6 years $1,800,000
Charlie Baggett Assistant Head Coach/Wide Receivers 3 years 375,000
Jim Chaney Offensive Coordinator/Running Backs 3 years 425,000
Harry Hiestand Offensive Line 2 years 200,000
Darin Hinshaw Quarterbacks 2 years 150,000
Terry Joseph Recruiting Coordinator/Defensive Backs 2 years 175,000
Eric Russell Special Teams/Tight Ends 2 years 200,000
Chuck Smith Defensive Line 2 years 225,000
Lance Thompson Linebackers 3 years 375,000
Justin Wilcox Defensive Coordinator 3 years 600,000

Two things that stand out to me...

The difference in pay between the OC and DC.... 175,000k and Chaney has a better resume...

Hiestand lower than C.Smith? Hiestand is a proven coach at the collegiate and NFL levels...his NCAA resume is off the charts...

If Dooley wins 8 or more games in year 1, Hamilton will bump up the salary over $2 mil.

Its a pretty good pay rate. If you want to be a power in the SEC then you got to pay for one. It leaves room for raises, When these coaches gets the players and start to win then they get raises. Sabin is the top coach in pay followed by Meyer, and so on. I think the D line for Tennessee will really Chuck Smith. I hope they lock up Lance and Jim Chaney at Tenn for a long time because of what they did, They stayed and helped hold this class together, Shows alot of how these guys are. Thanks
