While Nuke was on the recruiting trip, Kiffin took Nuke's phone and texted back and forth with Coach Thompson leading him to believe that he was Nukeese. If someone did that to your father, you'd be pissed.
My point is that Kiffin needs to earn back the trust that he very carelessly toyed with. If you can't understand that, then you're not being honest. I guarantee Pahokee's doors will be opened again, but Kiffin's serving his time in the penalty box for insulting an entire town.
Thompson is Nuke's father? Also, if my father was stupid enough to fall for something like that, I'd laugh my ass off at him. While Nuke was on the recruiting trip, Kiffin took Nuke's phone and texted back and forth with Coach Thompson leading him to believe that he was Nukeese. What does it say about how highly Nike regards the sainted Coach Thompson that he chose to lie to him?
grow up!
The coaching staff actually thought UT was a better fit for Nukeese considering that Andre Debose had committed for the Percy position at UF. Kiffin didn't trust the coaching staff, so he told Nukeese to lie to them so he could make him a star.
18 year-olds are pretty damn impressionable. If they weren't easily impressed, why would coaches rip off shirts?
Grow up? Gotta say that's not very mature. Kiffin's allowed to make mistakes. He should also be allowed to make up for them.
Why such visceral attacks from this board?
We could use more players from Pahokee and Belle Glade. We need doors open at those high schools, so the PR team needs to work something out.
He insulted an entire town by saying:
According to the Palm Beach Post: Someone at the school was going to screw it up. The fax machine wouldnt work, or they would have changed the signatures, all the things that go on in Pahokee. According to the Gainesville Sun: For those of you who haven't been to Pahokee, there ain't much going on. You take that hour drive up from south Florida, there ain't a gas station that works. Nobody's got enough money to even have shoes or a shirt on.
"Seems like now he just called it like he saw it." Really? There's no accountability? What kind of world are you living in where that's okay to speak about a town in disparaging generalities? I've heard other people speak disparagingly and use generalities about my town as it relates to race. I'm afraid that some of the responders on this board wouldn't mind one bit.
Tristin, I can understand how you feel. I wouldn't like if I felt someone dissed my hometown. I agree with some of what you say. Whatever went on, evidently some of the folks in Pahokee feel slighted and there is likely to be some fallout. I thought I read a while back that Kiffin had talked to (apologized) the coach down there after all that went down. I'm not sure about that though. I think we'll be ok in the long run though. Fences will be mended and we'll get more good players from Pahokee. On the other hand, you have to admit on some level that the principal at Pahokee is going a little overboard in his actions. For what it's worth, not everyone on here gulps the 'koolaid'. Some like to take small sips..
Much appreciated, m1al.
I will admit that there is a fine line and I can only hope that the school will ultimately do what's best for the students/players. I don't know if the principal is doing the right thing right now.
There is a struggling agricultural economy down there and sports is a way up for lots of kids. I don't say "out," because we are very proud of our roots. Anquan Boldin has brought a lot back to the community with his organization, for example.
Boldin remembers his roots in Pahokee
