If this is trying to disagree the 17 tackles should be considered “showing out”, then question is do you?
Right on, and Arky has them as well. You have to attack these types in the backfield before they get going North & South. We need more attacking run support from the back 7 for sure in effort to get them down to the ground and not allow them 7 YAC.Those Miss State RBs were absolute dump trucks once they got going downhill.
That is lazy analysis.Well if we’re being honest he didn’t have 17 solo tackles. They ran the ball 50+ times on top of that. We can pretend he doesn’t blow coverages or get beat in the pass game more often than not. That said, he’s the best linebacker we have for sure. He isn’t close to the best we’ve ever had. Yea 17 tackles is nice but if you watched the game it’s like putting lipstick on a pig. Angel Reese might have 15 offensive rebounds in a game but it’s misleading when it’s because she blew 15 layups.
Someone who watches film and knows ball better than me might be able to answer: is Telander's problem more lack of speed or just not being in position?
The natural bias is to assume that because he's a white boy he's a football genius somehow so any deficiency in his game is lack of athleticism. It seems to me like he's more often out of position, where AC seems to have a firmer grasp of things.
Good question. Hes a thumper vs the run either way...especially between the Tackles which will be important vs Arkansas with their big backs. He does struggle in coverage, and sometimes in space like those 2 runs Saturday.
Our Safeties are the real problem. It isnt even close between LBs/Safeties either. Turrentine plays every snap on defense, and he has taken bad angles since he got here 5 years ago. I cannot believe in the 3 or 4 recruiting classes we have had since he got here that we have nobody that can do his job as well or better. Farooq has taken bad angles too...but hes a young guy and its more understandable. We need to hit the portal and grab a couple good Safeties. Its the only position of need honestly on this whole team. They have done OK vs the pass...but been bad vs the run all year. Bad. Seriously.
We have a couple talented kids coming in at Safety in 2026....but we have been saying that for 4 years now and I am a very positive poster. Never been a Nega. We took 6DBs in the 2025 class. Redmon is gonna be a good Corner and probably starts opposite Gilbert next year. Somebody (2 somebodies, minimum) need to step up at Safety next year. Thats the one position we have missed on in the portal repeatedly...AND somehow been unable to develop starting SEC caliber Safeties from HS picks. For 5 years now. We have had Safety problems for 5 years. Straight.
Have some perspective… have you watched college football across the country how many defenses have more sacks and tds scored than us ? Up until this year the defense made significant improvements and injuries probably hurt us the most this year… some of yall hate banks so much to actually look at what we do on the field… it could be a WHOLE LOT WORSE… let’s see what the defense looks like if we continue to get healthier… our defense won us that game and 21 of the 34 they gave up today can be blamed more on offense and special teams turnovers… I think you should put your resume in for our DC job I’m sure you would do much better.Doesn't look like anybody is teaching tackling technique for the linebackers and the secondary, notices many MSU ball carriers simply stepping through the tackles, the legs are never twisted up with the arms and hands, too much desire to throw the body at the other players body, which makes a nice highlight if you flatten the guy, but results in an additional 10 - 12 years if you miss. The defensive secondary has been a problem and sub par defensive structure since Heupel got here, I do question the overall capability of some of his defensive position coaches, we can and should do better, particularly when looking at the lack of continued improvement over the Heupel years, the Nico apologist are apologizing for the Banks/Martinez product on the field
I have not liked our safety talent in a while… losing jakobe really hurt because he was the best safety we have had in a while and he is balling at Miami… that we need a dynamic game changer back there:.Good question. Hes a thumper vs the run either way...especially between the Tackles which will be important vs Arkansas with their big backs.
