Tee Martin & Will Friend Co-OC?

Heard Ainge talking about that possibility this morning. Could it work? My initial thought was that I hate the idea of Co-OC’s, but at this point, unless we can get Sark, I think this isn’t an awful idea.
I disagree... How well did T and Helton work out at SC? Plus, T is overrated... clearly!

Would love to see Tee coaching at UT. Not too big of a fan of Tee being an OC though even if it is “Co-OC.”

I was a fan of Tee as an OC before last season but his results this past season show I was looking at Tee as a possible OC with my orange tinted fan glasses.

So you can prove everything you've said? If Friend didn't call plays for Colorado State then I guess Bobo just magically forgot how to call plays this year? You also know for a fact that Lebby didn't call plays? Your one lone year that we know Tee was his own OC, USC sucked and they sucked hard. You can't argue that, the stats are laid out in front of you.

You're also ignoring the fact that Enos in three years never had an offense drop as hard as Tee's two, I'll give you those two because you claim Tee was the only OC, either way he had a huge drop off in terms of production. So we are going to say that Clay Helton was actually the one calling plays this year and not Tee? Will that be your next excuse? Cause you can't have it both ways. Either Tee was the lone OC when they were producing and then when they weren't. Or he wasn't the lone OC when they were producing.

You seem to flip flop on what you want the stats to mean. In one sentence you say all the good numbers were all Tee, but in a previous post you claim CHelton was just firing Tee to save his own job. Well if Tee was so great then an off year shouldn't matter right? Unless of course Tee wasn't the one calling the plays during the good year.

Here is what we know for a fact, this year alone proved Tee Martin as an OC proved wasn't very good. He called the plays, he failed to get them to produce, he gets the blame. The stats show this, unless the NCAA is lying as well. He's not better than Friend, or Lebby, or Enos. As you put it in your last sentance there, the numbers don't lie.

CSU Football: Mike Bobo puts play-calling trust in Ronnie Letson

"The Colorado State head coach is no longer calling the offensive plays, but it doesn't mean he isn't thinking about what he would call if the game-day play sheet was still in his control. . .Those duties now rest with assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach Ronnie Letson, and they will remain there Saturday as the Rams host Illinois State (1 p.m.; AT&TSN) at Canvas Stadium.

It hasn't been easy to give up for Bobo, who has called plays for the Rams since taking over the program and did so for nearly a decade at Georgia"

Nevermind found it. He didn't call plays this year. 🙃🙃🙃😥😥😂😂😂

If he was really OC he wouldn't now be the oline coach here.

Reports: Will Friend to leave Colorado State for Tennessee job – Mile High Sports

"Friend was making $540,000 per year as the Rams offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, but some questioned why the Rams were paying their offensive coordinator so much money when he doesn’t call the plays. Bobo, instead, is the team’s offensive play-caller."

Lebby is not the OC. He is the qb coach. He isn't calling plays.

Tee was the sole OC. He was never listed as CO-OC. Helton and Tee both said Helton gave input when Tee wanted he wasnt the playcaller.

I have nothing but facts. You need to stop acting like the Friend and Lebby situations aren't facts. I posted some info to help you out though.

So cleared those up. Tee is the only one who called plays in FBS.

Enos had the worst o in the SEC. His power running system doesn't work. He got WORSE literally every year. Tees numbers are better.

So better than all three. Big facts. You need to stop lying.

You claimed Lebby was OC and is listed as qb coach and he doesnt call plays. Tee has been the sole OC and called plays. Yet you want to split Tees credit and give Lebby all the credit? 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

I don't want to exaggerate but we might not get a first down next year if we do that.

Coach Friend is well respected as a really good coach so if he and Pruitt decided that Friend is our new OC I can accept that.

Tee Martin can go pound sand since he totally used us before just to leverage a pay raise for himself.

Him at UT in any way is a horrid idea IMO.

VFL...GBO!!!
Tee did not use UT. Tee chose not to work with Botch Jones.

Uhhh this completely kills any salvageable momentum Friend had. I honestly had no idea he didn't even call the plays when he was there - this is so stupid lol

I think if Friend is the OC we will be looking for an entire new coaching staff in 2 seasons...

I don’t believe in Co offense of coordinators. Only one guy can really call the shots. It is his career is on the line. The other guy works with him is establishing the game plan and coaching, but is not the guy getting bullets fired at him. Tee and Helton were co offensive coordinators at usc, but Tee called the plays. I feel the real offensive mind at usc was the HC, Heltons older brother. A few teams like Clemson use real co-OCs but both are fully capable of doing it on their own.
Last night I was reading an out dated article on the 20 best offense of coordinators in college football. T Martin was listed in the top 20, but was just fired. I don’t think he is really one of the best offense of minds in college football.
So for me, I don’t want Tee Martin as offensive coordinator. He could do it but I think we have better options.
Just about anyone can make a list of plays and call them during the game. That does not make you an offiensive coordinator. A real coordinator can dissect the defense on the fly, and call plays to take advantage of weaknesses in the defense. At the P5 level and in pro football, it is all about getting the best matchup’s.
The best OC’s are also great QB coaches and can teach any offensive position on the field.
I do like Tee and wish him the best.

It’s almost like we’re turning UT into a safe space for former USC coaches that get in trouble or are over-rated at their job

He can't explain it. He can't even handle it when stats from other OCs that were in question are put in front of him and show that Tee can't compare stat wise to them. He'll kick and scream and call everyone a liar. I wouldn't expect a civil discussion from this guy.

Just wait until he starts with the racist undertones.... he’s textbook

So Tyson really called the plays, but really neither he nor Tee called the plays because Clay really really really called the plays?

So there was a shadow CO-OC and a shadow true OC over the fake OC and shadow CO-OC who called the plays but really didn't? 😒😞😐🙃😥😥😥

Some of you will make up anything to discredit Tee for some reason. Pretty odd that the other name haven't gotten done like this.

Where was Tyson's play calling ability last year? 🤔

Sorry the experts know more than you. Top 20 ish is right. About 15-30 range. Not the best in the land better than most.

And Tee has and can coach every position on o except oline.

Funny the ones that usually bring it up are guys like you crying that someone will validly bring it up.

But since you brought it up he is defintley not being held to the same standards as other coaches who have been fired or had people on staff that gave input.

I'll leave the speculation of the reason why to you.

I check volnation daily to see if any news of a confirmed OC was hired. Sad to say it's been so many days I've lost count...maybe he meant signing one after the February signing day, not the one in December

If that were to happen, I can honestly say I probably wouldn’t watch a single down of Tennessee football next year. Of all the options out there, if we default to this, we deserve all the misery and suffering forthcoming.

Tee has had several opportunities to come home. Every time he was presented the opportunity he spit in our eye. His heart bled the wrong
color orange when it came to his son!

Get over Tee--let him and his show biz wife make their way in Louisville or join Butch at Temple--anywhere but Knoxville!
