I'd like to see Miles come in as head coach and Tee in as an associate head coach in waiting or what ever you want to call it :) and as OC of course

groom him for the HC job,his star is on the rise

That's about only way. Unless under Gruden. Hehe. He is not ready to be an sec head coach. He didn't even get GA southern job people

from the Scoop

The Scoop - Saturday December 2, 2017 - FootballScoop

"Tee Martin: Following USC’s win last night, Tee Martin said he has not heard directly from Tennessee and does not currently have anything set up with them; but added he would reconsider if the Vols came calling tweets Adam Maya."

hopefully this isn't a late repost :hi:

Of course he is interested in the Vols. He will take anyone who is willing to give him a chance at HC.

He's had the luxury of talent because he's recruited it.

Precisely. People seem to want to diminish Tee by talking about Darnold's greatness. That's a Tee Martin player who wasn't even starting until Tee pushed for it due to Max Browne underachieving. And Darnold would have gone to Utah if not for Tee. So...

But you can’t deny it IS A RISK. No matter what color the guy is.

Every coaching hire is a risk. Teams win the press conference all the time only to discover that guys like Brett Bielema and Jim McElwain were big fish in small ponds. Oklahoma fans openly revolted when they hired a largely unheralded defensive coordinator for Steve Spurrier. And then Bob Stoops anchored their program from 1999 until the start of this year.

Tee Martin is 39 years old and has either coached or played football his entire adult life. His playcalling just won the PAC 12 championship for a team whose defense was ranked 81st in the country coming into this year. As far as risks go, Tee's one of the smallest ones available to us. And he has the benefit of uniting the fanbase save for a few folks who won't ever root for him for...reasons.

I thought he turned it down and other offers ? not sure if the others were as the HC

Hey get out of here with facts. They have no place when bashing Tee.

Didn't you know? No team wants him and he has never called a play. He just scribbles with crayons on the sideline while the Heltons call plays.

He throws a ton of deep passes though.

I have no idea why we're talking about Jackson in a Tee Martin thread, but the only stat that matters is yards per attempt. That reflects accuracy and the types of throws each player makes. Jackson has a terrific rate of 8.74 YPA, which is actually slightly better than Darnold at 8.71 YPA and much better than Josh Rosen's 8.24 YPA. Jackson's accurate and successful for the college game. How much any of the three players translates those skills to the pros remains to be seen.

Ok. I agree he is risky. You can't win big if you don't gamble though. Others have done it and won big. He has all the qualities I would want in a rising coach.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Dabo a WR coach before getting promoted to head coach? It took them a little while but now they’re a power house

Tee Martin is such a better option than David Cutcliffe or Les Miles. If we're going that route, rather than trying to get someone like Mike Leach, I'd much rather go for Tee.

Cutcliffe is a great coach, but he's 63 years old and has no passion or desire to be at Tennessee. It's silly to hire Tee as "Head Coach in Waiting" so that we're basically taking 2-3 years to actually start building up the program again.

Les Miles isn't that good. He was 19-10 with top 5 talent in his last 3 years at LSU. He did not have a workable offense in years. He coasted by solely on the fact that he's in the most talent-rich place in the country with a near monopoly on much of that talent. If he was 19-10 at LSU, he's going to be worse at Tennessee.

If we're not going for Mike Leach or Jon Gruden or someone like that, Tee absolutely makes the most sense.

I would be OK with getting Tee and throwing him to the wolves.

But getting a a guy like Cutt or Miles for 4-5 years and make Tee the highest paid OC in the conference to be groaned for HC in waiting.

That is the ideal situation.

I just seriously doubt he goes before two if not three other guys.

FWIW, you're likely right. Rosen hasn't played well this season, at least relative to expectations. His stock should be dropping, and Jackson's should rise since many of the complaints about him also applied to DeShaun Watson, who was absolutely wrecking the NFL prior to his injury. Still, Rosen's been in the discussion for #1 overall pick this year, and Jackson wasn't. Right now, it would be a surprise if Jackson passed Rosen. And it would be a true shock if Darnold doesn't go #1 in the draft. His play last night should have cemented that if he hadn't already.

Unfortunately, Tee's wife has a singing career/style that fits better into L.A.

Love the idea of him being HC in waiting but could you really convince someone like Miles to say “you’re out in 3-4 years”. People need to stop buying the narative with Phil orchestrating this... dude signed a 2 year deal and was offered more than that. He loves this university and deserves our utmost respect for stepping up to the plate. At this stage you’re not a vol if you don’t back him. You don’t have to like him but you should support him.

So NFL guys think he is worthy of a top 5 pick at the least, but you know better huh?

I'm sure you do think he is just an "athlete" who runs. Despite the 3k plus passing the last two years.

He throws a ton of deep passes though.

In the deep ball arena, you want to hit around 50% for good accuracy.

How much grooming does he need? He's been an OC for two years and both years he's done an excellent job of using the fire power that he's recruited. How much Of did Dabo have? How much did Filmed have? You 1st need the fan base united and energized. He's the man. Someone that can recruit on a high level. He's the man. Someone who can relate to the players of today and who knows what it means to walk in their shoes. He's the man.

Honestly, I'd love to see him run the offense on his own without Clay Helton.

The big question is Tennessee scared or not ready to hire a Black Head Coach.

I was watching Paul F'baum show several days ago and when the question was asked regarding "Tee Martin" over and over again , He would be a good hire for the job, Paul would just deflect or ignore the question like it was never asked. I'm starting to lose respect for the show because all I see is Alabama fans calling in and talking smack when they didn't win anything this yr but 2nd place. Crying to get into the playoff race and Paul jumps on their bandwagon and kisses Satans Butt...
