A recent post got me to thinking about how the magic that is UT football (or basketball) can be enough to make a grown man cry. Mine was spending the 97 Florida game with a friend that has since passed. What is your moment that brings a tear to your eye. Its ok guys. No shame in it. I think we can all agree we have a soft spot for our university.

Mine was this year, at the orange and white game, I drove the whole way down from PA to see my vols for the first time. When fowlkes heard that I drove the whole way down and he dedicated the game to me, I teard up, but I thought I would totally lose it when I walked into neyland for the first time, but I didn't. I lost it when the orange and whit squad ran outta the tunnels, cried like a Lil kid.. I was my dream come true..

In 1998 I was at the Arkansas game with my a friend of mine from high school. My dad and I had season tickets two rows below the V in the vols sign. This particular Saturday, my dad went to sit with my friends dad and I sat with my friend. I promise at 15 years, I said every curse word in the world on UT's last offensive outing prior to the stoner fumble. I also assure you, that every blue hair in the place stared me down as though I was Damion born on 6/6/66. My friend joined me in my rant, he was as all vol as all vol can be. After the stumble and fumble, we were ecstatic and full of jubilation, and the final touchdown was a huge life experience.

In December 2004, my friend from the game, Daniel Harrison was killed in action in Iraq. He was riding in a Humvee positioned at the 50 Cal. machine gun stationed on top of the vehicle. The Humvee hit a bump in the road/sand, and Daniel dropped down in the all purpose vehicle. When he pulled himself up, an enemy bullet went through his armpit and straight into his heart, as it is the only place that is not covered by a chest protector.

As we all know, the Vols sign was takin away and the jumbo tron was put up after the 98 season. In 2005, during the Memphis game, the jumbo tron showed a picture of Daniel on top of a Humvee during his time from Iraq. His picture was just above where we sat for that game. I was still young at that time, I kept my sunglasses on, as I cried. I have never been sadder at a UT game. I wish I could say a lose to UF or Bamma was my saddest moment; however, a victory over a nobody like Memphis was the saddest UT moment in my life. I really doubt it will ever be matched.

His memory lives on as we his brothers fight on.

I started to cry when I thought the '98 Arky game was lost. I was in 5th grade.

I was in 10th grade and I was cussing, saying stuff like, "we would do such a good job, and then lose to the G0$ D@mn Hogz", among other things. Not even closely to discreetly, and I mean I was yelling this stuff. This was just an example of the lighter stuff screamed.

Feb '10 Ky/Ut basketball game. My dad, a lifelong Memphis fan, but UT fan because of me, had just passed away (He didn't like how Cal left Memphis). 2 good friends grabbed me after the funeral and we went up for the game. Very emotional.

DJ I am truly sorry to hear about your loss. Your friend died doing what he thought was the right thing. There are so many young men fighting this war in the middle east with their hands tied as the men who fought in Vietnam did. It is a shame that our country gets us into these situations that are really unwinable for us. As a 100% disabled vet I understand the sacrifices made by our men and women in the military. I just wish everyone would have to experience the hardships our military go through if even for 1 month and then maybe they would have a better understanding of what these people are giving up. Your friend is a hero who gave his life by doing what he was told to do. God bless his soul for giving everything he had. I hope you find peace about this sometime in you life.

I cry everytime the "T" opens up and our VOLS come running onto the field for the first game of the season.....so many good memories I guess, time of year, the fact that it's finally here....all of it just gets me.

This. Everytime that "T" opens, I'm holding the tears back. :cray:

The final 60 seconds of the National Championship game, my dad and I sat together on the couch. Neither of us able to speak, listening to Ward make his last call for the Vols.

No sir-ee, NO SIR-EE!

Final score, Tennessee 20, florida 17, pandemonium reigns!!!

I was at the game but I recall listening to ESPN radio the next morning driving back to Raleigh and they played the John Ward call. That was incredible.

Another moment came at UF in 2001. I know most people call it "draining the swamp", but we only won by 2 points. When that 2-point conversion failed and the ref kept the flag in his pocket I felt such a sigh of relief. After we recovered the on-side kick you could've heard a pin drop in that stadium.

I cried after we lost to Arkansas to in 99. I sat there after the loss thinking about how awesome winning the NC was just 9 months prior to that and knowing after that our chances to repeat were finished.

I was thinking about something funny the day. After the 98 season my mon was gonna buy me one of those banners that said Tennessee and listed our championship years (1951 & 1998 and below that all the conference championships). Anyway I told her not to bother because it's just gonna be obsolete after we repeat in 99. At that time if you told me Tenneessse would go 12+ years w/o a NC, nevermind a SECC, I would've laughed in your face. Oh how young and stupid I was back then. At the time I didn't appreciate how special that season was.

I'll probably get blasted but I'll say it anyway. I teared up when they carried Fulmer off the field. Love him or hate him, he's all Vol and that was a moment that sticks with me.

I would have cried more had I known then who the next guy was going to be.

The first game of the season of 2007. I had a cousin that was like a brother to me. I live in Florida and he lived in Oklahoma. Every game we would talk on the phone while we watched the game. He died in a traffic crash in summer of 2006 one week before his vacation to come and visit me. It was not cool knowing he was not going to call.

I was at that game. Definitely a bittersweet day for Tenneessse football. I actually almost teared up when watching his resignation speech.

Last years LSU game. I was in Fuel Pizza in Davidson, NC. Going crazy, ESPN came on and said game over Tenn has upset the LSU tigers. I went bonkers, 35 seconds later I wanted to punch myself.
