Team USA Basketball

The US played so much better than they did against Serbia. But France played really well too. I would even argue that France played better than Serbia did against the US. Serbia made lots of lucky 3’s, and they benefited from lazy half court offense from the US in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

The turnovers today were really bad. 17 turnovers in a 40 minute game is way too many for the best players in the world. Pretty flawless performance, otherwise.

The turnovers were bad, but I think the turnovers came due to the more aggressive approach the entire team took when compared to their game against Serbia. There was way too much passivity from all players, excluding LeBron and Curry, until the 4th quarter against Serbia. In the gold medal game, everyone was much less lethargic. KD, AD, and Ant specifically played with much more intensity.

Way too early for this, but this is what we do!

PG's/Combo: Brunson, Haliburton, Spyda, Fox, Ja, Trae, Maxey, Garland, Sheppard

Wings: Booker, Ant, Tatum, Brown, J Williams, Bridges, Miller, Bane

Forwards: Paolo, Zion, Barnes, Cooper Flagg

Bigs: Bam, Chet, Hartenstein, Jarrett Allen, D Lively, Mobley, JJJ, Naz

Role players: White, J McDaniels, T Murphy, Suggs

One thought I have is we can't be totally sure Steph and Lebron won't be in the mix? I hate the PG choices, but this is usually a problem for team USA. The prototype is a great table setter who can shoot and play D, and it's actually really, really hard to find that kind of PG. Another problem is a lot of those guys are the type of player where the offense kinda has to become their identity when they come in, and that's not great for a dream team. Brunson is an incredible player. I didn't like it when it was the Brunson show at times in the last FIBA tournament, and we didn't even medal. If Chet is out, then I definitely want JJJ.

If Sheppard turns out to be great, then he is kinda the perfect PG for team USA, and I'd probably swap out Brown for him (because he's anti-Nike).
