X-factors are usually unknown quantities (like the "x" in a math equation) that have the potential to be hugely significant...or maybe not at all.
Josh is a pretty well-known quantity. He will be important, hugely important, we already know this. There's only a little "x" (unknown) left to him. Such as, can he improve his throwing consistency? Otherwise, we don't really have to contemplate what he'll be.
I don't think Tyler Byrd will be our most targeted receiver this year, however I do believe that he will be thrown the ball in big time situations when we need a conversion (If he proves to have the sure-hands like I think he does). Our big bodied receivers haven't proven that they can come down with catches late in the game when we need them. I think Byrd may get some of those high-pressure targets. As good as Byrd was on defense, I don't think CBJ switched him to O without planning on using him this year.
I think he is the one player that has the most control over UT taking the next step on that side of the ball. I think UT will lean on Hurd, Kamara, and Dobbs running but they are gonna be put in some spots by the better defenses where he has to make bigger plays with his arm. If he takes that step UT will take it with him.
He may not be a trendy pick or even the right one but I wouldnt dismiss it altogether.
Im gonna go in a different direction.
Butch Jones
He has assemble a team with the talent and experience capable of winning every game they play.
Are the expectations too much?
Can he get a team ready every week that will be favored in 10 or so games this year?
The great teams all have talent. After that, preparation and coaching fill in the other gaps. Does Jones fit into that elite group that can get the pieces to fit. Heres his chance to answer that.
To me Dobbs is more of an x-factor than any player on the team. The reason I say this is if his passing game improves our offense will be lethal. It's a major unknown whether he will improve in that area. That makes him the ultimate x-factor.
X factor is someone no one expects to make a huge impact.
Dobbs is the most important player on the team. As well as the most well known.
He can't be an x factor. He'll be the main factor if we have the season most expect.
