I like Croom down the seam with a LB. Could be a real go to guy in the clutch, with good hands.

If it's kongbo, the odds of the Vols winning the SEC east would have to be even higher and Bob Shoop looking like a defensive mastermind......I hope
Go Vols

Maybe some frosh on special teams just kill it and becomes the next JRM.......Vol's don't need a drop off on special teams, even without coach Elder

Man, it's awesome to have this debate. To have the talent just waiting to erupt on opposing teams.

It has to be on Josh Dobbs as our "X" factor. He will take us wherever we go. We can't hand the ball off to Hurd & Kamara every single play. Dobbs will have to step up in the passing game.

We know he can run the ball too himself just like Hurd & Kamara but he must be able to complete passes all over the field to take us to the promise land & a national title.

Dobbs fails at doing that then we're not going very far period. He's our guy. He's our "X" factor.

Sure, we have other players that need to play well & step too but Dobbs will be the #1 determining factor to whether we have a successful season or not. I think he's mature & ready for the challenge.

I will say Josh Malone is another player that needs to finally live up to his 5* signing status. He will be a target for Dobbs quite often I'm sure so he needs to step up his game & also wipe the grease off his hands so he can hold onto the ball. :p

Dobbs with no doubt in my mind is the key to this team going to a place we as fans are looking for them to go & that's to a national title.

Definitely. Not long ago, the thread title might have been "Name Which Player Has Actual SEC Talent". Thank you BSiA.

X-factors are usually unknown quantities (like the "x" in a math equation) that have the potential to be hugely significant...or maybe not at all.

Josh is a pretty well-known quantity. He will be important, hugely important, we already know this. There's only a little "x" (unknown) left to him. Such as, can he improve his throwing consistency? Otherwise, we don't really have to contemplate what he'll be.

I think he is the one player that has the most control over UT taking the next step on that side of the ball. I think UT will lean on Hurd, Kamara, and Dobbs running but they are gonna be put in some spots by the better defenses where he has to make bigger plays with his arm. If he takes that step UT will take it with him.

He may not be a trendy pick or even the right one but I wouldnt dismiss it altogether.

Im gonna go in a different direction.

Butch Jones

He has assemble a team with the talent and experience capable of winning every game they play.
Are the expectations too much?
Can he get a team ready every week that will be favored in 10 or so games this year?

The great teams all have talent. After that, preparation and coaching fill in the other gaps. Does Jones fit into that elite group that can get the pieces to fit. Heres his chance to answer that.

It is awesome. We talk about how many critical players could be gone after 2016, but I'm starting to believe that Team 121 will just be a reload situation..

On the O...The CROOMSTER.

If he stays healthy he's a playmaker and this is his last year.

Also because previously buTch has loved to use his TE's a lot and now he has the solid options to do that and take advantage of LB's that just can't cover our TE's well enough.

On the D...Kyle Phillips.

If he's healthy then he gets off really fast and is almost impossible to stop.

At the Nike camps against top O linemen he made them look like high school freshmen and made sack after sack or solid pressure consistently.

Now he should be ready with a chip on his shoulder to prove how good he really can be.

Our DE rotation is going to be a BEAST and hard to stop especially with our DT's threatening too.

I believe we ARE going to improve solidly on both sides of the ball this season.

BEWARE...WE ARE COMING!!!

Team 120 with the attitude REFUSE to lose...VFL...GBO!!!

I don't think Tyler Byrd will be our most targeted receiver this year, however I do believe that he will be thrown the ball in big time situations when we need a conversion (If he proves to have the sure-hands like I think he does). Our big bodied receivers haven't proven that they can come down with catches late in the game when we need them. I think Byrd may get some of those high-pressure targets. As good as Byrd was on defense, I don't think CBJ switched him to O without planning on using him this year.

Oh, Tyler Byrd will most definitely be used this coming season. He's just too good to keep off the field. He will be a major special teams contributor. He will midway thru the season start seeing more passes come his way. He's just too dynamic with the ball in his hands.

No way we waste him this coming season either by letting him roam the sidelines or redshirting him. He will play & probably see the field a lot. He's a special player that you don't get too often.

On one hand, I think a young WR will be our X Factor.

On the other hand, I can't possibly vote against Eric Berry :)

On O, I gotta go with P Williams. We need a WR to step up as the man this year. Someone who Dobbs can trust in crucial situations. I think Preston can be that guy.

As for D, I'm going with Vereen. He kinda takes a back seat to some of the other d-lineman in terms of popularity, but that guy just consistently gets it done. Opposite of Barnett he should have plenty of opportunities to make plays. Add in the fact that he should be kept fresh with our depth at DE...watch out.

Thinking about how good this pass rush will be keeps me up at night. Lol

Think about it, we haven't had a pass catching TE like Croom since Jason Whitten (I know he has done it on the field yet but I believe he can) I think that he will be the x Factor. He will give the WRs much more room on the outside, and that safety better not be so quick to come up into the box on the running plays or Croom will be running down the middle of the field for LARGE gains! I think this was the best move in the offseason. I wonder was this Butch's idea or Debords? Other way, it promises to be a genius move if he can beat LBs and outmuscle safeties the way we think he can. I think he could be OJ Howard like, maybe better!

Plus, it seems like it is a throw Dobbs likes. He made living in the NW game throwing to Alex Ellis for fcol!

To me Dobbs is more of an x-factor than any player on the team. The reason I say this is if his passing game improves our offense will be lethal. It's a major unknown whether he will improve in that area. That makes him the ultimate x-factor.

X factor is someone no one expects to make a huge impact.

Dobbs is the most important player on the team. As well as the most well known.

He can't be an x factor. He'll be the main factor if we have the season most expect.

Don't believe that's right D4H. https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=what+does+x+factor+mean

It's not defined as someone or something you don't expect. So, yes it very well could be Dobbs & my post a few pages back tells that. :)
