TE Depth?

@JimmyHyams: TE AJ Branisel has told UT coaches he is leaving the program. The RS sophomore caught 3 passes in 10 games in 2013. Redshirted last year

Wolf and Ellis will get the majority of the snaps at TE. After that I expect Creamer to be a solid contributor. Who knows how the Johnson experiment will turn out?

....and Jason Witten's son is in the _____ grade now...? How much longer?

jk - I don't know if he has a son or not (but I hope so)

I'm bummed when anyone decides to leave the program, but we've got Wolf and Creamer after this year plus two solid freshmen TEs coming in the '16 class.

Ain't worried.

Assuming AJ Branisel pulls the trigger (he remains on roster as of this morning), I'm still counting 7 TEs: Ethan Wolf, Alex Ellis, Joe Stocstill, Neiko Creamer, Jakob Johnson, Will Jumper, and Eli Wolf.

At least three of the first four were ahead of AJ in the depth chart...when Jakob got added, and it became clear he'd probably be ahead as well, I guess that was AJ's cue to pop smoke.

Don't think we have that much of a depth problem at this position.

I wish AJ luck wherever he lands.

Now we know why Johnson was moved to TE. Makes sense. There's more than enough depth at LB, and he can help at TE. He should excel as a blocker and possibly as an H back.

So next year 2016 we have Wolf and a bunch of players who have done nothing at the TE position. There can be no denying that this position lags far behind most other position groups. Easy to roll out names but I would rather see some experience and maybe a few accolades along with those names. In the Dooley years I was generally happy just to have enough players at each position group to field a team. Now I want some meat on the bone so I'm disappointed in the TE position. Anyone that thinks we are fine will see it completely differently if Wolf and or Ellis goes down. Always thought TE was Butch's bread and butter position.
