What I'm concerned about that is is 61 if we hire him I wonder how much longer he'll be coaching, but still I want to see us get this guy.

let him hang around for a couple of years and fill Thompson's head with even MORE Defensive goodness to add to what he learned from Saban, Monte etc. etc. :dance2:

With every good coach there is a chance of them leaving for a better job, that is just the nature of the business and we as Vol fans should know that more than anybody.

I looked at the points given up by teams before and after he became the defensive coordinator, and I wasn't overwhelmed by the progress in a lot of cases. Either way, he keeps getting better jobs so he must be doing something right.

Apparently the Stache's agent is Jimmy Sexton.

If his coaching measures up to the coolness of the mustache, then he could be a great hire . . . HA! Just kidding. I think this guy sounds solid. Hopefully, he joins the staff here in Knoxville.

That mustache screams old school...smash mouth...ride a Harley...have a gun fight in the saloon...then take a showgirl upstairs for a rowdy time kind of guy.....well that is my take on it.

It's not on footballscoop.com it's on footballcoachscoop.com.

The two ARE close though,so I can see how you thought I was wrong. :hi:

Dick Bumpas looks like one of those dudes who enjoys bare knuckled boxing and also drinks his beer from a big frosty mug. I like him!!!

I was reading the bio looking for the UT or Dooley connection which is this:

"Bumpas coached seven years in the Volunteer state, splitting time between the University of Tennessee (1985-89) as linebackers coach/special teams coordinator and Tennessee Tech (1983-84) as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. While with the Vols, Bumpas coached three bowl championship teams (1986 Sugar, 1986 Liberty, 1988 Peach) and was part of the Southeastern Conference championship in 1985."

Would be a great hire. Great DC with Texas recruiting connections.

Beating Miami in 86 was right up there with TN's NC in 98. Anyone associated with that squad is A1 in my book. Good year to be a Vol.
