We might see Taylor move back to DE. I thought Gooden played some solid games last season. No doubt the DL could be the worst part of the football team, but at least a lot of guys returning that played quite a bit. Hopefully the secondary will be vastly improved with everyone back and hopefully Crouch and Peterson will give the linebackers a boost. Game after game I saw players in proper position to make plays and miss or whiff on the tackle. I can think of multiple times in every game where missed tackles kept us from getting off the field. That is where improvement has to be dramatic.

I was at the game in Athens. Sideline before the game as well. We outplayed UGA most of the game. We were outmanned but if our offense could have kept possession just a little longer, our Dfense wouldn’t have been so tired.

Our offense will be better this next season by reason of a potentially better Oline.

Our defense will be better because it will be year 2 in the system. Secondary and linebackers can play faster and not think so much.

That’s just my 2¢

I like the Henry kid who I believe will help as long as he signs. I also believe Crouch will start early. Savion Williams will contribute early as will the 2 safeties we signed. For all the gloomers who see no improvement we were a 100 yds better in rush D in 18 vs 17.
For all the whiners who want to spend your life like a 2 year old crying for Mamma you need to quit football and take up soccer, it fits you better.

The only 2 games that seem out of reach are Bama and UGA. Nobody else is that scary.

Nothing says outplaying an opponent most of the game like having 58 total yards and 0 points at the half

Good post. I would say still having Emmet Golden helps. Do we get Alexis Johnson back? Also Junco players like Savion Willams and Daryl Middleton are older guys who can come in early and help but other then that who can help? I haven’t looked at our depth chart but I am curious to watch these guys in a 3-4 scheme. LBs are going to have to be great this year which coincidently is one of Pruitts specialities along with DBs. And we still have more time for recruits to sign by April so hopefully we get more depth on the D line.

How did we do second half?
The strip sack fumble and return for a TD in the first half hurt. The strip sack and recover for a field goal in the first half hurt too. That’s 10 points that shouldn’t have been on the board.
Our defense can play with UGA offense. We have to have our offense catch up. With the Oline upgrades and playmakers we signed, we are closing the gap quickly.

I’ll say this and you can hold me to it.

The gap next year....widens. It gets bigger before it begins to shrink.

If you want to know if Tennessee football is headed in the right direction, you should see a lot of freshman and redshirt freshman get big playing time.

If they continue to trot out the names in the thread title and others, then it will be a long time before Tennessee is competing with a team like Georgia

A year stronger Emerson, Gooden and Butler, in addition to S.Williams and Middleton. And ... we are still not done with recruiting.

Not unless they switch to a 4-3. Taylor is around 240. No way I help he is playing DE in a 3-4. Where did you get that idea?

Alexis was a senior. Done.

Minced, Butler and Golden are your experienced Dlinemen, which is scary as ****. Emerson should move into rotation, but we need these JUCO guys to show up in shape and ready.

How does the gap widen if you lose very little talent all while adding significant talent? Next season should be a perfect mix of veterans and young ones, combined with a much easier schedule, and talented veterans in EVERY position group other than DL?

Our cupboard is not empty. We have some players but not the depth needed to play aginst the average sec team. Our d can play with GA about 1/2 game.
Our o will need time to adjust again. Good thing our schedule is better next year.
