I think we are worse at receiver. Thornton, Bru, and Squirrel did not amass some huge amount of yards, but the same people saying we improved there would have been pissed a year ago if you told them what the passing game was gonna look like last year. Given their inability to stay healthy in the offseason or to catch balls in routes against air, I am concerned with that position.
We are worse at running back. We had the SEC POY last year who broke all our single season rushing records. That will be an downgrade. People can poo poo losing Sampson all they want, but we will be worse there. I think we will be fine at running back, but if we were merely fine at running back last year, we probably go 7-5.
We could very possibly be worse at O Line. Sanders is a true freshmen. We have had some tackles who went on to be great who were not good as true freshmen. Pendleton couldn’t start at ND when they were healthy and may not be the best fit at center. I’ll have to see Jesse Perry actually do it before I am convinced he is some stud. Same with Heard really, he wasn’t good at all last year. I do believe Moe will be very good for us though, so that’s a plus.
Quarterback could be worse too. I was not a believer in Nico from the moment he ran out of bounds against Arkansas. He wasn’t good. But Aguilar is far from proven at this level, and Heupel’s track record here with QBs he recruited has been bad. Halzle’s track record as an OC isn’t good. So it’s a huge question mark.
The offense could possibly better, but when you have so many question marks, I doubt you get answers that you like at every position. And we need to like the answers we get at every position for the offense to improve.
