Syracuse game kickoff time set

They’re decent and could’ve been 11-2 if they didn’t lose by an eyelash to a pesky 3-9 Stanford
Don't sleep on Syracuse. They are capable of beating us right now. That 10-3 season they had wasn't a fluke. We've got the better horses. But we may not have the better team. If our QB and transfer portal issues show up as an issue that we think they are, we could get embarrassed. And if we do lose, Katie bar the door.....
Y'all seem to have the 2025 Vols playing the 2024 Syrexcuses. 🤔

@orangebloodgmc

Just having conversation about what we know about their recent history. They lose a lot of production on offense w/ their QB going to the draft and adding the ND qb we looked at, and their best wide receiver transferred to Penn St. They went 10-3 with a win over Miami, but also lost to 2 really bad teams. I think that’s somewhat relevant bc I don’t know that they added that will be better than what they lost

Would much rather play in the fine confines of the Benz Dome vs the AC Dome. Go Vols! Was at "Thee Game" to start off our '98 Natty journey. Epic.

Ya'll keep forgetting that we aren't bringing the '24 Vols, much less the '22 Vols. There's a chance that we start calling random fans down to start at QB if things go poorly. This game has bad Ju-Ju written all over it.

I kind of figured this would be the time. Up against Texas and Ohio State. Awesome .
Does it matter? Not even in the same stratosphere.

CFP rematch, 2 biggest fanbases, and reigning champion vs ....playing Cuse in football.

I have a bit more faith in Heupel than that...but yeah I wouldn't say any game is safe this year outside of the scrubs, barring some magical level of run dominance, but I don't see that currently.

I was pointing out that it was the same time slot and basically saying we won’t get any casual viewers bc everyone is going to be watching that game. Not sure what you’re saying exactly

Guess what champ...Vols will not be playing '24 Syracuse either. Our OL, running game and defense will still set the tone against a team that has very few offensive weapons and a QB that has never started a game.

Syracuse football experienced significant roster changes via the transfer portal, including notable losses in positions like offensive line, defensive line, and wide receiver. Players like Maraad Watson, a Freshman All-American defensive lineman, and Trebor Pena, a key wide receiver, departed for other schools. Additionally, several offensive linemen, including David Wohlabaugh, Willie Goodacre, and Enrique Cruz, entered the portal.

We have a 4 star and a 5 star on the bench if Appy State's QB can't cut it. Not like a bunch of scrubs on the bench.

If that were the case, Why go after Joey? I mean, yeah, they have the stars but if it was that straightforward, why bring Joey in as opposed to someone less known (to be read as "cheaper")?

I think Merk isn't playing up to his 4-star rating and MacIntyre is a true freshman. Won't be shocked to see all 3 starting this year.

Obviously because they value the real game experience and leadership he brings.

Not going to sleep on them but we have no reason not to beat them by 2 or more scores. BTW that was an ACC 10-3 record.

They beat Miami, but lost to Stanford? I think had 4-5 1 possession games and several went to OT. They easily could’ve been 7-5 or 8-4. I guess we had several close calls as well, but as you said that was an ACC 10-3. We go 13-0 in the ACC last season IMO

While you are

You're not wrong, but we managed to lose to Arkansas with Nico under center with a better overall team than we have this year.
This isn’t a road game like Arkansas, it’s a “neutral site” in Atlanta, meaning at worst 2/3s UT fans at MB. I have a pretty strong suspicion that the players and coaches are tired of hearing about Ohio State all offseason and they’re tired of hearing that they won’t be very good because Nico left or the wide receiver room is unproven . Everything points to a team that will show up focused, pissed off and playing w/ a giant chip on their shoulder.

I still have nightmares about Donovan Mcnabb almost derailing ‘98 before it started.
I still remember that as a great start to a dream season. Give the ball to Jamal! I also remember being puzzled that a dome named after the Carrier air conditioning company didn't have air conditioning.

I think there is a good chance the team has that mindset. I do think Fran Brown is a good coach also though. He was Georgia's secondary coach in 22'. Should be a real chess match between he and Heupel. Granted he doesn't have Georgia's corners from 22' but we are also way less experienced at QB. It will be an interesting dynamic to watch.
