Swain wants Butch to emulate Dabo

Exactly my point. We didn't run the same offense with Dobbs that we did with JW. Especially in the year JD took over through the off season as starter.
When JD came in for JW we rarely threw the ball worley through a lot more and rarely ran (other than for his life).

My point was that we still ran that option with Worley. No one in the country thought he was ever a threat to keep the ball and run it.

I have no idea how people get that idea. There are more coaches with hands on than not. Saban, Harbaugh come to mind. It's just a ridiculous concept that head coaches should not be involved with calling plays. Dabo was never a coordinator or anything. I doubt he could be now. I like coaches who actually know ****. But that's just me. I liked that about Kiffin when he was here. James Franklin also carries a play sheet. But yeah, Butch has an ego? I just don't see that.

They all have an ego to a degree some more than others. Saban's is well documented but nobody cares because he beats the piss out of everybody.

The Dabo comments are hilarious. I like coaches that win 10+ 6 straight years. If that equals him not know **** I'll take that and you can have Jones. Lol.

Not like what we ran with jD. Not even close.

Once again, my point is addressing your claim that Jones will adjust his offense to fit his players. Was Worley a fit for that offense? Maybe ask Hurd about Butch's willingness to adjust the offense to fit the players?

I'd be willing to bet you my right arm he never told Hurd he would revamp the offense just for him.
And changes were made for JD. That's my point.

I agree with byrd moving to CB from what i saw at the all american game he shut down some of the best WR IN the nation a pure shut down also block a field goal think he would make a instant impact. No way the move jennings with malone gone . JJ is starting to look great at WR if he can be a little mpre consistant catching the ball he will play in the NFL.

He may never have promised Hurd anything but it was obvious that he wasn't the type of back that fit this offense.

Agreed. This offense will never work unless we have someone mobile like Dobbs.

After three years, the offense was custom fit to Dobbs. Geez. To say it wouldn't work without Dobbs is probably a stretch. Bring Dormady or whoever, make adjustments, practice, and play, and we will be fine. I remember QBs at Cincinnati that were pocket gunslingers and that worked. I will never disagree that having wheels, brains, and an NFL arm is a good thing. Dobbs had two of three most of the time and the third half of the time. Great player. Big heart. Missed a lot of passes.

You're wasting your time discussing football with catbum. He was probably as clueless about the game of football as a gang of sorority girls until he learned the lingo on a sports internet message board.

Perhaps. I don't think our OL is good enough for a pocket passer like Dormady though. It'll be fun to see what happens

There is no chance of this happening. Butch is not Dabo, he is Houston Nutt. High control who will never let a coordinator look smarter than him. Way too thin skinned.

How long have you and Butch been close? You seem to know him quite well, knowing his inner thoughts and all.

Fact is no one on this board knows whether Butch will make the necessary changes or not. I would like to think he is astute enough to evaluate what transpired and make alterations.

Obvious that he was within pouting distance of being our all-time rushing leader. We should always miss this bad.

Injuries were a factor, but the players on the field were still more talented than SC and Vandy. Florida got hit just as bad and beat LSU.

Why have we had so many injuries under Lyle? This isn't a new problem. One year is dumb luck, three years straight is a huge problem.
Strength and conditioning.

We lost three defensive tackles, our two best linebackers, our best CB. Any team that loses that much talent especially in the middle of the defense is going to be vulnerable. I don't care how good a coach you are if I take all your defensive tackles and then take your shut down corner away you're going to suffer. Anyone can run up the middle and when you compensate by bringing help down in the box play action is going to kill you over the top. People can preach talent all they want but you can have five stars at every skill position and if you don't have talent in the middle you're going to suffer.

You're right, in some ways it was worse. They lost a starting qb. You'd be defending an 0-12 season if Dobbs was lost for any amount of time.

Yet, with good coaching, Florida still win the east.

Butch gonna Butch. Every year. It's a pattern. Next year you'll have new excuses.

Comparing Florida losing their QB which was debatable as to which was the best to losing JRM, Sutton, Kirkland the next best LB which his name escapes me right now is down right incredulous. Not to mention we started 11 different combos in the secondary, lost all but one of the main DT's, 7 different combos on the OL and I'm probably forgetting some of them.

You and some of your buddies are letting your hatred for Butch get in the way of sane thinking.

If LSU would have had anyone but Orgeron as a coach against Fla, they would have won handily. Worse play calling in the red zone I've ever witnessed..

Completely agree. Think about it in Fulmer's time.

The real coaching was done by the Chief as DC and Cutcliffe running the offense. The year Cutcliffe left Fulmer struggled.

Fulmer however was a great closer on the recruiting front.

...and he was even overrated at that.

Stupid post. Fulmer always had top 10 classes...thats not debatable. His team's were loaded...like 3 NFL backs, 4 out of 5 offensive linemen to NFL, and half the defense. The question is how many more championships could he have won if we could have actually beaten Florida. Stupid post is stupid. Fulmer is in the college HOF for a reason.

This thread went south very quickly.

As for the two losses that some cannot put behind them -

- Vandy was a defensive failure. Tennessee scored enough points to win, in fact scored more point on Vandy than any other SEC team did. Injuries, while not the sole factor, was a big factor in that.

- South Carolina was different. Offensively the team wasn't clicking. Having a bad apple who doesn't want to participate on the side line can and will drain and derail the focus that a team needs.

Both good points -

I'll add that re: Vandy - defense is where our injuries were. I'll try to go back and see who our 11 were for that game and how many games they played together previously.

Regarding SCarolina - Dobbs pulled 2 or 3 late/all-nighters the week prior to the game which, I think, impacted his play.

Butch has too much ego to step away and let someone get the glory. He will always hold the team back because he wants his hands on the offense.

The offense is too hit or miss. Tons of points or tons of punts... Too unreliable.

Then you have nothing to worry about. He'll fail and we can start dogging the next chump! I'll take the lead this time. :)

Highest scoring offense in the history of UT.
Hired what many considered the best DC in the nation.

Jones won't hire good asst. LOL
