Swain wants Butch to emulate Dabo

Where were those top rated classes? I forgot, they were losing to SC and Vandy. It's not like we were starting walk ons.

Name me another team we faced that anywhere near the number of injuries to starters. Hell, how many team captains did we lose?
Were mistakes made by the staff? Of course just like every staff wishes they could have a do over on some decisions made in games.
But to not accept the FACT that injuries killed this team is just idiotic and not living in reality.

I'm good with Coach Jones being Coach Jones. Talk show folks fall somewhere below politicians in my rack and stack. Arm chair/Monday morning quarterbacks have the advantage of knowing the outcome. The bookies in Vegas are pretty good guessers. They were 15 of first 18 bowl games. Now they are 21 of 38. UT is in a lot better position to win big games (Florida, Georgia) than in years. Bama is racking up in recruiting see yersterdays Under Armour game. Beating up on UT coaches and program is not helping UT. Do I agree with every play or recruit? No. But I don't know a fraction of the facts the folks in the program know. Swain and Stokes make a living off their mouths. Nuff said.

There's two facts that matter. Wins and losses. He went 8-4 with a playoff caliber squad.

Injuries were a factor, but the players on the field were still more talented than SC and Vandy. Florida got hit just as bad and beat LSU.

Why have we had so many injuries under Lyle? This isn't a new problem. One year is dumb luck, three years straight is a huge problem.

Uf had nowhere near the number of key injuries. Not even close.

Butch has too much ego to step away and let someone get the glory. He will always hold the team back because he wants his hands on the offense.

The offense is too hit or miss. Tons of points or tons of punts... Too unreliable.

You're right, in some ways it was worse. They lost a starting qb. You'd be defending an 0-12 season if Dobbs was lost for any amount of time.

Yet, with good coaching, Florida still win the east.

Butch gonna Butch. Every year. It's a pattern. Next year you'll have new excuses.

We've seen the same problems for the last three years. You think Lyle is all the suddenly get better? He's our Soon and has done a good job of that, but it's time to get a real coach.

I'm not disputing your point but I really believe the Hurd drama cost us the Carolina game more than the injuries. That being said, I believe Jones should have dealt with Jalen prior to the game. Hurd shouldn't have even been on the sidelines for that game, imo.

Too much lost talent and a rebuilding year, imo.

If the NC teams play like they did Saturday, Clemson will win.

We'll see - Washington thought they were going to take the high powered offense and run all over Bama. They also though their defense was going to be able to go the distance and not get worn down. It didn't happen.

I think the NC is Alabama's to lose not Clemson's to win.

That very well maybe the case. But I wasn't in the locker room or around the team. Perhaps he was trying to get Hurds mind right. One thing all coaches have in common is ego and confidence. Maybe he thought he could help JH through his what appears to be emotional problems.

Instead of the bit about hiring smart people, try the phrase "hire excellent people."

One of the best bosses I ever had said that her goal was to always hire people better than she in their particular area, and she gave them free rein to do their jobs. And it worked. (Hey, she hired me! :))

Didn't he leave Hurd home for the A&M game in an attempt to get his mind right?

I think this is very on point. I also agree though that we will need Byrd at WR next year. I also agree that Jones seems to be favoring seniority over talent. Another example of that is John Kelly. Why wasn't he getting significant reps from day 1 at least this year and maybe more last year as well. That kid has a lot of heart. As far as Jones stepping back a little and letting the coordinators do the heavy lifting, I have been thinking that for 2 years now. He is a great cheerleader and recruiter. The coaches need coaching and guidance and he should stick to doing that.

Hurd does not have emotional problems. He didn't like his role on the offense and quit because he doesn't care about his teammates or coaches, he cares about Hurd.
