Swain not impressed with Wells hire.

This is consistent. Jones wants his O run his way. That's why he is hiring the guys he's hired. He seems far more willing to spend his money on D... then give Shoop a very long leash.

If you don't like the O or if it doesn't produce... there's only one guy to look at.

It appears that he has some strong connections midstate and hopefully that will help in securing some of the top talent that's available this year. I'll allow him to put a product on the field first before I judge his coaching abilities.

You mean the offensive coordinator that just led the Tennessee offense to the most total yards and most touchdowns in school history. Is that the one you are talking about here?:good!:

Yep that's the one. That fine record got the Vols to the Music City Bowl too. And lost to USCe and Vandy. I'm happy we could get more yards and points in other games. Good stuff. Just imagine what the offense could have accomplished with two more wins rather than a fun statistic.

Dobbs was tired, and Hurd was being a meanie. Why you bringin' up old stuff?

There are about a dozen or so posters on here who are never impressed with anything about Tennessee sports. Ignore them and move on. Swain really tries to stir the pot because that is the only thing he does well. Of all the bad sports show hosts, he is close the the bottom, just ahead of Will West.

Let's see. Now, where did you play college football? The University of Vonore?

He's apparently a good recruiter. He has no track record as an OLine coach. It's a little early to laud it as a great hire, and to denigrate a VFL receiver over his opinion because he didn't spread enough sunshine. I hope he's great as a coach. If he's not, I hope he is the world's finest recruiter.

If I wasn't clear that's what I meant.

Wait and see is absolutely understandable, which is why I only lauded his recruiting. But if I can't spread sunshine over his lack of power5 record, I can't spread storm clouds either.
Right now, the Richmond improvement is the only case study I have. It's just nice to see the word "improved" on anything related to our OL.

There's enough in the world to worry over. So when something is an unknown, I try not to be unhappy about it until given a reason.

Blame the defense if you want but to whine about DeBord and the job he did with the offense just shows how little you understand about football.

Said that Wells was one of 3 OL Coaches last year with Mahoney and Debord.
Swain says if all 3 put out a bad product last year, how will now just one of them coaching alone put out a better product.

By golly let's fire him! Seriously, dude may be the bomb. We won't know until it plays out.

RECRUITING!!!! He is well known in the Nashville area and respected. What does Swain know? I doubt quality control guys have much input when it comes to coaching. OC, Oline coach, quality control guy??? Go clean the toilet.

Regardless of the opinion of Swain, if Wells was the best option for oline coach, why has he not been the oline coach?

Because Mahoney had been with Butch 6 years upon arriving here. Also, Debord working with Mahoney had the line looking better in 2015 than they did in 2014. While they regressed in 2016, why would you let a QC assistant take over midseason over your OC and O-line coach? That would have been a recipe for disaster. Meaning Butch would have appeared more desperate and would have lost the team, lost confidence from the boosters, and the other coaches he had under him. It's not a video game.

Where have you been? CBJ is blasted more on this board and by the local media than the fake news networks blast Trump.

Did Butch Jones stiff you for an autograph at some point?

Lol...My bad. I should hang out here more.

Yes...He did stiff me for an autograph once, but it wasn't intentional. He was jumping up and down trying to get my attention...I mistook him for a child trying to see over the crowd, so I let him cut line. He's not very tall.

I think that's a fair assessment.

The O left so many points on the field in so many games. You have fun with your statistic which means nothing in three or more games that his offense got stuffed.

I submit to your genius football intellect. Do you understand the team which scores more points wins right?

See, this is most people's problem with you. You don't really come to add anything to a thread, you just come to bash Butch or bash anybody that says something positive about the coaching staff.

Didn't realize we had a popularity contest going on. God bless.

I gave you a "like" to show there's no hard feelings.

There are considerably more posters that view everything Butch does as sacrosanct, and touched by Providence, refusing to view anything he does with a critical eye based on the facts. It's the difference between unconditional support for the coach, and a desire to see the best for the program no matter who leads it.

There is nothing wrong with questioning this or any other hire being made, and fairly gauging the shortcomings we see.

Probably need more wait and see posters than the ones on the fringes. Of course if I had to pick a fringe, I would pick the side where I wouldn't have to be miserable every day of my existence.

Well, you should call him. I'm sure he would be impressed with your football IQ. Might even offer you a job!!:)

Nope...I'm less qualified for this job than he is, by a little.

I care about my alma mater too much to do that to them. That's where he and I differ.

There were times when it was ugly against SC, App State etc, but really, I'm not sure how much else we were going to get out of the offense last year.

So we all agree Mahoney wasn't getting it done here? Never heard his name mentioned in recruiting. So we replace him with a guy who is said(from his peers) to have a infectious personality and recruits and coaches love him and has ties instate. Instate talent is as good as its ever been this year and we're questions this as a bad move? Can't imagine going through life looking for the negative in everything.
