I don't know why they even bother pretending, it came out a few years ago they don't do live instruments because they don't have time to do proper setup. It's also why Metallica wasn't made the halftime show when they were in San Fran a few year back because they were told they had to use pre-played music and pretend to play and they refused.

The Black Eyed Peas half time show was worse since they had some major audio issues (could barely hear the music). I'm not a fan of this music but I can at least appreciate the dancing. Now days I tend to mute most of the halftime show. I'm a metal head so most of the stuff that gets played in the Superbowl grates on my nerves.
