i would be happy with 7-5, but i think it will be more like 5-7 if we don't improve any.

This season is going to be like adding nitrous oxide to a car with a blown head gasket

6-6. Book it. Yes, a successful year when you throw in the new class and the graduation of some Fulmer schlubs.

Just to stir the pot - what do you think Fulmer's record would have been with this team?

I'm guessing 5-7

The problem is that so far we haven't shown week to week improvement. Our quality of play reads like a heart monitor. We're up, then we're down, we're up, then we're down! I'm really hoping this levels off with Auburn and we start playing hard-nosed, fundamentally sound football.

I'm not going to judge this team by the overall record because the non-conference schedule is an absolute joke!... WKU, Ohio, and Memphis wins can artificially inflate a bad season in a decent looking overall record. I'm looking at the SEC schedule only.

A 4-4 or 5-3 SEC record would be success in my opinion given the mess that foolmer left.

This is exactly true of Fulmer's W-L stats, except that the bottom of the SEC was much weaker then and the top consisted of fewer teams.

I was about to post something similar...

That's a result of being where this program is right now in the turnaround. Time, and more quality players, will breed consistency.

This season, savor the highs. Don't sweat the lows.

The pieces are in place for the future. And that has not been true for quite some time.

here's what would be a good season. 7-5 regualar season, with consistent improvement throughout the season and a very good showing in the bowl game.

Here is where I am starting to think you may see some dissapointment. It seem more likely to me that you will see a steady decline in overall effectiveness of this team this year as the season progresses.

Now, before you jump all over me, the reason I think that is simply lack of depth. Not Kiffin's fault, and I'm not saying the plaers are going to let up. But as the season wears on, injuries mount, fatigue sets in for the guys having to go without relief, I just think that the most likely scenario is that the Vols end this season worn out and beat up.

A couple of weeks later, when folks are thinking ahead to next year, that will turn around. But in terms of overall performance, the most likely scenario to me is a fall off, not an improvement.

Probably 5-7 or 4 and 8. Who knows, maybe a winless season. Either way we would have probably not had a top 25 class last year and maybe not top 50 this year and would still be looking forward to a coaching change. It was going downhill fast. At least now things are lookin up.

I see what you mean by lack of depth but the fact is, we are already seeing the effects of the lack of depth. Many of those second string sophomores and freshman are already in the line-up and have been. I see us improving throughout the season to make a strong bowl appearance in a weak bowl.

I think he actually pulls out the UCLA game this year - lessons learned. But possibly another Memphis '96.

I'd guess 5 - 7 as well.

Of course, wouldn't Boyd be on the sidelines? Hmmmmmm. Might be underestimating Phil.

If The Fired Coach is still here, we lose to UCLA by 2 TDs. We might even be 1-3 right now.
