thanks. looks like we really do need a new accurate qb running that o.
I am no genius with the whole west coast deal, but I think the best it was ever run was when the 49ers used it with Montana. :good!:
:shakehead:
Joe Montana apparently doesn't fit the mold of CLK's offense. Joe Cool was 6'2 200 and clutch. Tajh Boyd is 6'1 205 and rivals rates him the most accurate in nation.
I am with you on the WCO origin. I believe it became famous out in SF in the late 80's. Its what Bill Walsh, Mike Holmgreen, John Gruden, Norm Chow and USC run/ran.
The way somebody explained it to me is basically reversing the philosophy between running and passing. Traditional football is played by run, run, run to set up the pass. West Coast Offenses are pass, pass, pass to set up the run. Basically switching the roles of the passing and running plays. It is dominated by short, crisp passes...mostly quick slants and outs to spread the defense and open up running lanes. There usually aren't very much downfield passes. The system is dependent upon an accurate QB with a quick release.
I always thought Spurrier's "fun-n-gun" was just a suped up west coast offense.

What does Boyd's height and weight have to do with being a QB in our system? I guarantee that has nothing to do with why Kiffin told him he would not be a fit here. Generalizing and listening to rivals is not the way to find our future leader.
Grateful....I miss the old deadhead avatar....the dancing bear in christmas lights is cool and all....but can't do better than the skull.....was that the One More Saturday Night skull??
You talking about Uncle Sam (previous avatar)??? Yeah, he became famous on the One More Saturday Night soundtrack. I thought the Christmas Bear was festive for the holidays. It came down between Christmas Bear and Jerry dressed up as Santa Clause. There is enough art out there to change it every week so I try to keep it interesting. Thanks for the compliment.
