Students Coming Out in Force

Atrocious. Only 13k seats for the folks who pay tuition, room&board, "Maintenance" fees, you get it. If every damn student wants to be at that game, every damn student should have a ticket with their name on it.

So you're saying that UTK should hold back ~28,000 tickets to each game and not even attempt to sell them until a week beforehand on the off chance that every student in the university might want to go. Great idea. When's the last time the students used up their entire allotment again?

I'm an alumnus. I paid a ridiculous amount of fees too. I didn't always get a ticket. It happens.

Depending on when you graduated, (a.k.a any year before this year) they're paying more than you did.

All they'd have to do is allow a 1 week student purchasing period where there was no limit, a month ahead of the game. When the week is over, the tickets go to full sale.

A bunch of the posters on this site scalp the tickets on gameday anyway, so waiting up until a week before isn't a big deal.

So let's be fair to fickle college students on the off chance they all decide to show up for a home game as opposed to selling the tickets to willing buyers to generate more money for the university. Yeah, great idea.

To many entitled people out there.

Given how flaccid student attendance has been for years, why should the UTK ticket office have some convoluted ticket-buying process to accommodate them? It's hard to see this as some great injustice when they haven't been using the seats allocated to them in the first place.

Once they start using their full allocation on a regular basis again, then they've got an argument. Right now it's just bandwagon kids whining.

Im in that picture somewhere - man was that a great time to be a student!

ME TOO!!

Excuse me? That's incredibly rude to those who pay themselves or take out loans themselves. It is their school, after all.

I would imagine those taking out loans without any assistance from their respective family are in the minority.

So while you deem it rude, I deem it truthful.

And as far as 'their' school goes, to a degree it is their school seeing as they or their family is spending money to go there. But a couple of quick questions(mainly rhetorical)

Is Tennessee a state ran university?

Who pays money to the state?

What about the people who donate money to the university? go to games? buy memorabilia? concessions?Parking?

Point is, it's a lot of people's 'school' and they aren't whining.

I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty positive that students can't do this with their tickets. The ticket is for them personally and requires ID at the gate, although there may be the occasional ticket checker who doesn't ask. Still, it's too much of a gamble.

Just got mine, I'm in G row 23, however we did not get the two guest tickets in our group. CAN"T WAIT!!!!!! Cause I'll be drinking makers, markers, cranberry vodkas!

That was my seat when I played in the Pride. Great view.

I was commenting more about the idea of holding more than 13K in case some of the students don't have seats for a game such as the upcoming Florida game.

I spent over $64,000 during my time there. I also pay taxes to the state. They're the students. They get the degree that says "University of Tennessee" at the top.

You can go in the circular "no school without donors v no school without students" thing as long as you want. No one will win.

Any student deserves a chance to go to the game. I suggested a time-period system around a month ahead of time so the leftovers could be sold to the general public.

How long do y'all think the AD would last if those darned donors and season ticket holders disappeared? Oh that's right, the student fees would cover it.

How about the new facilities? Did student fees pay for that also? This is ridiculous.

That wouldn't have helped this time. Most of these students didn't know they cared about going to the Florida game a week ago.

The only time you're going to see extraordinary student demand is when everyone jumps on the bandwagon for a big game. No way those guys are going to buy tickets a month ahead of time.

You act like you're one of the big name donors. Which you aren't. The big name donors sit in a box, which aren't tickets that are "at risk" of student sales. Get over yourself.

I agree partialy because i think every student should be able to go to the game .But not that every student should have a ticket.Because alot get the ticket then sell them.

Cant believe there are 13k students who care about football here. Most could care less about sports

Sad but true. There are too many students here that are apathetic about what makes Tennessee great. A lot of them claim to be "fans", but most just want to get hammered every weekend and use football as an excuse to start early.

And I for one am perfectly ok with that....
