Strong Source: Fulmer is Gone

I realize many people have speculated about this, but I have an extremely reliable source that would absolutely know this information. The decision is already made that Fulmer is gone and they are trying to work it out as a "retirement" as expected. Based on my limited conversation, there is some resistance to the retirement aspect -- not sure if it's from Fulmer or other decision makers. Given the source, I would say the probability is 100%

This source also stated there is an issue about hiring incoming coaches. The fact that UT has to recruit nationally is of concern. Given the recent parity in college football it appears hiring a top notch coach is fairly difficult so I would temper expectations. There was no speculation of incoming coaches, no existing list (that we know of), but that this difficulty may be a reason why Fulmer has lasted as long as he has.

No other information was disclosed regarding the other coaches, when the announcement would come, etc. This is all I got.
nothing official but doo you hear any rumors about successors

Why don't each of you gather up your "inside sources" at one place and get it all figured out so we don't waste so much of our time buying in to who our next coach may be only to have another "inside source" say someone else. We keep hearing I heard............ about 50 times. Someone who KNOWS please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From a person close to the situation, there are claims that you are grumpy.

Should Fulmer cooperate and "retire", he'll likely have his eyes set on Hamilton's job. This is probably why we haven't heard much out of Hamilton recently.

I'm pretty much over CPF's tenure being over, it's a foregone conclusion. I'm mostly concerned about who the new guy will be and what his staff will look like, and will they be proven commodities. I worry that those making the moves in Knoxville will try and be cheap when given the choice.

Hint: you're on a message board where anyone can and will say anything and claim sources to make it sound true. Believe none of it until something substantial comes to light. It's 99.9% BS.

A biased Bama fan's view:

Best Case: CPF stays another year. Of course I know CPF has owned us for much of the past decade. We've been wondering in the desert. Now we have a Joshua. This year we may or may not win, but given the status-quo I like our chances in this and future years.

Worst Case: Prior to the Bama game, CPF announces his retirement effective the end of the year. I expect Tenn to be hard to beat anyway; this would just make it worse. Then there's the problem of who replaces CPF. No currently-unemployed coaches bother me. If you go with a currently-employed coach, nothing happens until the end of the season. My worst scenario is Muschamp. Yeah, he's unproven beyond the defensive side of the game. But I suspect he'll make some team a heck of a HC. I hope it's Clemson or some non-SEC school. But if Tuberville leaves, I'd rather Muschamp go to you guys than the Barn. (IMHO Gruden is a pipe-dream for any college team.)

Hi. I am new here. Fulmer needs to announce soon in order to save face and bring back the passion that our fans are known for.

But with his contract buyout at 6 million dollars..... who knows when Phil will leave.

Also if we hired Muschamp I would love it if he brought Major Applewhite with him as OC and associate head coach. I know Applewhite is a Texas alum but he is only making 250,000 in Austin coaching RB's. I think we could afford to pay this guy upwards of 500,000 because Muschamp would be a cheaper hire than say a Butch Davis, or another proven HC. I like the idea of taking a chance on some younger guys and seeing how it works out. I am sold on Muschamp and Applewhite both and I would do whatever it takes to get them to knoxville as soon as possible.[/QUOTE]

I really like this idea.

My source backs up this story. I told him I was going to post it on this site and he said he didn't care anymore that he was fed up and this was likely his last season working for the University. I hope that part isn't true. He's undoubtably one of the best ushers ever to work Neyland Stadium.

Muschamp will want at least $2 mil to come to UT---plus, Applewhite will get a huge offer from Texas for at least $600K, so UT would have to beat that.

well then it fits well with most of the stuff on here.:)

"fulmer/hamilton was thinking/knowing this which is why they decided to do that, and that is why we lost/won. repeat 'til writ in stone."

it's a forum. it's all in fun. probably more fun if not taken too seriously. kind of like the presidential election?

Hamilton.

An inside source I assume is someone employed by UT. Then no, it's not an inside source. If you think hard enough there is probably only one non-UT employee group that would be in the know.

For some reason I believe you.

i'm glad theyre trying to work it out as a retirement because i still have a lot of respect for fulmer. hes a good guy and a good coach, hes just not getting the job done in recruiting because hes kinda old and not very exciting.

That's a pretty funny comment actually.

All I can say is this: the person has access to all the inside information and would have no reason to lie. Therefore, this is why I shared the info. In fact, he was so cavalier in saying Fulmer was gone that it sounds as though there was little push back (but that is certainly speculation on my part).

As for any other details: I specifically asked about who UT would hire and all I got was what I put in my original post.

Well, from being around for the majors fiasco and all that led up to his eventual demise....This is the same type of stuff that was being said prior to Majors getting fired...all the stuff we are saying now is more or less just what it took to get the ball rolling on majors...only difference is Fulmer is in good health....

He may stay active (hope he does for his sake) but having weight issues and being in this profession, I doubt he's in good health.

Exit as King Philip on his own or as Fire Phil Fryed by all of us! Easy call. thanks Phil for the championships however they don't buy you lifetime contracts. (not from the 90s anways they don't) All i ask is please show more class than the man you replaced. We do not want to hear you blasting your successor a decade from now!
