Strong Source: Fulmer is Gone

Now question is will the good ole boys in East Tennessee accept a soul brother as HFC at Tennessee or do they care more about winning

My guess is that they would better accept a soul brother who had experienced any measure of success at his last two coaching stops, so yes, I guess they do care more about winning.

While the United Colors of Bennetton makes for an entertaining theme for Dove commercials, I do believe that East Tennesseans will favor winning football games over racial diversity for the sake of..uh...well...Willingham (since that is the only person I can see benefitting from it.)

The only thing that rasied a flag was the "parity of coaches". There's every bit of a 100 coaches out there that would jump at this job in a heart beat.

First time poster but long time vol fan.

I know Hamilton said the norm would be to wait untill the end of the season but i dont think that would give the new coach enough time to recruit. If a change is made now maybe the recruits will see UT is trying to turn the program around. I think if the right move is made maybe we can land Tajh Boyd. What do you think?

From an unimpeachable source:

Fulmer volunarily retires for $5 million and naming the stadium after him.

If fulmer gets fired, and gets paid $5.5 million in buyout cash, plus the millions banked over the last 15 years, should I feel sorry for him?

who, exactly, is going to come recruit for UT while coaching somewhere else? There is no point in making this move now unless you are dead set on Interim HC Chavis. these things happen at or near the end of the season 99 percent of the time bc that is the best time to do it.

I thought Lloyd Carr's bow out was about as classy as you could get in today's age. I agree that it would be the best case and give Hamilton the green light to search for the best possible and salvage some recruits.
That being said, if this is all just a tease, then you only think some of us fans and boosters are PO'ed now, wait till you take it back!!!!

i also think former NIU head coach Joe Novak was very classy walking away. they haven't done much since they went to the mac title game in 05' in which they were up big and lost the title on a hail mary pass. Novak brought the program from the dumps to being respectful. Last year the huskies went 2-11. Novak decided to walk away and do the right thing. Now Jerry Kill has taken over and has gotten the best from novak's recruiting classes and may have a possible 8-4 season his first year as head coach, but they must get past a tough ball state team. well just thought i'd share that with you all.

I really thought the idea of Fulmer as an Associate Athletic Director on one of the other threads was not a bad idea. Name something after Fulmer and let him move on isn't a bad idea. I'm not anti-Fulmer by any means, but I am pro-win and anti-field goal, so those two kind of throw me into the former camp I guess.

A couple of years ago I advocated Phil being named AD or something along those lines. Not so much any more. How would you like to be a newly hired up and coming coach and have a bitter, micromanaging guy looking over your shoulder?

OP is correct. To expand on the situation, negotiations are underway on Fulmer's buyout/resignation. Negotiations are also underway with Tuberville to be our new coach. Not my first choice, but definitely an improvement over our current situation.
