Hoosier fan here. What are the biggest strengths and weaknesses of your team. I’ve watched some highlights on your team to get acquainted. However, not enough game action to get a feel for UT.
What are your teams biggest strengths on offense and defense. Likewise for weaknesses on both sides. What is one name I should get to know on the UT roster?

Just wanna talk some football.

Welcome to the best College Sports Forum around; no one else really comes close.

Where are you from in Indiana? I myself was born in East Chicago, IN and moved from Hammond for High School in Tennessee.

I would say our strengths are our LBs, especially ILB and Safety is pretty good too. We had better play last season from our CBs but they are still pretty good. DL was very marginal to start the season but has come on strong lately.

Our OL is very young but they have started to gel really good, especially pass blocking. Running game could be better and should. Our TEs are very good. Pope is a great blocker and DWA is a very good pass catcher that you will see play on Sundays. Our WRs are very, very good. Jennings, Calloway and Palmer are solid; win 50/50 balls about 90% of the time and aren't easy to tackle.

QB play has been inconsistent but is much better than earlier this year. Guarantano has a nice deep ball but sometimes misses easier passes.

We have an above average punter and a great PK. We do well on punt return yardage and don't give up a lot of return yards.

All in all this Team is gritty and finds ways to win games (Defensive stands on the goal line, running out the clock 1st downs, long balls and in the last game with over 300 yards rushing in wet, windy conditions).

Current winning streak is 5 games. Started season with abysmal loss to Georgia State and blowing a 17ish point lead against BYU.

Team really regrouped and refocused after Florida shellacking.

Welcome. In the second half you will learn the name Jauan Jennings. Suspended for 1st half. From the start you will meet Bituli, D. Taylor and some other damn good defensive players.

Our biggest weakness is we've struggled mightily at times at the beginning and end of halves (see GA State and BYU losses plus this was timeframe where the FL and GA games got away from us). The games where we dont get steamrolled in this regard, we tend to do well.

Thus far all vol fans have been very cordial and welcoming. You won’t find smack talkers in our fan base. We are a very pessimistic bunch. And our fan base has disappeared and become non existent after years of losing.

I’m from Corydon Indiana. Based right outside Louisville Kentucky.

Our offensive strengths would be our pass blocking as well. We are youthful in all areas of the field. Our offensive coordinator just accepted the head coaching position at Fresno. Our play calling has been terrific. He scripts the first few series of each game through film and we have opened our last 7 games with a TD on first drive of the game. Our weakness has been deep throws and at times generating a run game.

On defense our weakness is by far a pass rush. It’s honestly non existent. We blitz and blitz often. It’s the only way we apply pressure. This leaves our CB’s in coverage too long and we get eaten alive. We also will commit soo many penalties on defense. I’m talking 10-15 yarders that will turn your 3rd and longs into first downs. We are the most penalized team in conference. Just bone headed mistakes.

Special teams solid. Above average in the kicking games.

Whop philyor is our playmaker. Who could play for any SEC team. And Stevie Scott our running back if healthy is a bulldozer Who will always fall forward and get an extra yard or two.

I know Indiana is a downer in Tennessee eyes. But we are very much up and coming in the grand scheme of things. coach allen has Florida ties and has recruited the state well.

Our team is about 70% freshman and sophomore. We are attempting to build a program similar to what Louisville had with all of their Florida athletes. Minus the shadiness. We always play the top teams tough. Over the years we have taken Ohio state, Michigan, penn state to the wire but always seem to lose in fourth quarters. Hopefully these underclassman are the ones who get us over the hump with development and experience.

I don't see IU as a downer. 3 months ago, we were looking at potentially the worst season in UT football history. To be playing a FL bowl game in January is an accomplishment from that point no matter the opponent....

Hendej,
Our offense is inconsistent plain and simple. Just can't consistently sustain drives probably due to our weakness in the run game. 3Wrs are very good and will make some chunk plays. We can't throw a screen pass to save our life. The defensive philosophy vs us is to bend but don't break. We'll make some big plays throwing but the drives usually stall due to a weak run game.
Our defense has finally gelled and is playing very well. The emergence of a DL and solid athletes at the 2nd 3rd level have made us one of the better Day in the SEC in the 2nd half of the season. If y'all can find a way to put up 24, then your in good shape. 30+ prob wins it. But, you may need defensive or ST scores to do that as a general rule

I'm pretty stoked @ IU. I think it's a good matchup. Some here think we mistakenly laid the 2 opening eggs and are really a 9-3 team worthy of PSU or Minn. But, even though we got on a great run to finish the season, we were a play here and there away from losing some of those. So, we are what our record says we are.

Should be a very good bowl matchup IMO. Hope we end up looking like a 12-0 when we're done in Jax tho.

OP, how is the OC situation looking? He staying until after the bowl game/who is likely to be the play caller if he's gone?

Trust me. I don’t know what the problem is with our defense. We have made Nebraska’s, Maryland’s and Purdue’s back up quarterbacks look like all conference players. Our defensive coordinator is in his first year as a coordinator. He’s 32 and was promoted due to his family ties with our head coach. I’m unsure if he will hold the position at years end. Your offense should be able to manage 24. And more than likely 30. Anytime we need a stop on 3rd down ( see penn state game) our defense gets in the fetal position.

We are not a Homerun hitting offense. Our quarterback takes what defenses give. And he usually dink and dunks his way down the field. I continue to see you all as a penn state caliber type team athletes wise and see this as a game played in the low 30’s or a blowout in your favor.

Like Prep H but prescription?
Or they hide stuff when pulled over by cops?
Or Like you could get an Orangeade and a hot dog on Sat AM?

Wish I knew. Our head coach was quoted that his phone has not stopped ringing. It’s a very good situation for an OC to step into. We should have a terrific offense back next season. If he hires from within Mike hart and Nick Sheridan (former michigan running back and quarterback) are the only options. However, neither have experience calling plays and this will be a highly sought after position with what we are willing to pay and our coordinator just getting an Head coaching job after one season.

It just says a lot that coach Kalen DeBoer worked with Fresno and IU to be able to coach this last game. He wanted to finish what he started.

Old school drug store. They have the old school ice cream and soda station in it and a pharmacy. Owners last name are Butt. Hence “Butt drugs”. Also sell alcohol so they sell t-shirts that say Butt liquors. Out of towners always have to stop in. Coincidentally enough Johnny Knoxville tweeted a picture a while back. Lol.

Well get ready to make ours look like a 5th place runner up on Heisman preseason voting.
