and find the guy that can help us reestablish Tennessee Football! That’s what it took for AL, and it took Shula as a bridge but they were able to restore AL football during his time there. I’d like to make a case for someone in the Tennessee family tree, namely a guy who played and coached here. There aren’t many, I know. I’ll throw a name out, though: Kevin Steele.

Fire away VN. I can take it. But before you do, consider what we need to undo and what it’s gonna take. He checks a lot of culture boxes. And he’s an elite Defensive guy.
Alabama went out and hired a guy who won a National Championship at LSU.......

Pretty sure Steele was a candidate for the HC job here during the last coach search. Maybe has applied more than once, don't know. Don't know how this got posted twice, sorry.

Hah! I like that graphic. I get it, not a great name. But that wasn’t the point. Someone give us some more names. Why is there no one in our coaching tree wiling to come back and get this **** fixed? We were high on Marrone a few years back. What about him?

He has zero HC experience outside of Baylor 99-02. I don't see spending the money it will take to fire Pruitt, even the decreased next year, and giving a guy like Steele who has been coaching for 38 years his first shot as HC in 20 years.

Well, there’s only a few of those guys available. Anyone biting on offers? Til then, we need a vested, capable Tennessee football guy to bridge us to that guy. Otherwise, this will be a never ending cycle.

Wouldn't mind at all having Steele on the staff....I do not want him as HC. Bring me Freeze, or Malzahn....proven, experienced SEC coaches. I'm done with on the job HC training.

No... Not as a HC. If TN would put up money and not peanuts at a great coach we have talent on the field in majority of the spots we just need great coaching. TN recruits itself by its name and conference so you can get top guys in here if we can get a great coach to teach these guys and win.

Hugh Freeze wants this job, he's a championship caliber coach
How is he a championship caliber coach? He never won the west and has 1 10 win season. If you are wanting 8-4 I get the name or want the hot name hire I get. I get he beat Bama a couple of times. I am just not 100% sold on him as being the savior of the program.

You want names that are all at least proving to be good head coaches? I know there's not a huge sample size on a couple of them but they have done something important - been HEAD coaches at the D1 level and have been able to turn bad programs around.

1. Matt Campbell - the miracle worker for what he's accomplished at ISU
2. Luke Fickell - the pedigreed coach with a good track record everywhere he's been
3. Jamey Chadewell - the flavor of the month BUT he can coach. He speaks intelligently and has players that will run through brick walls for him. Coaches a bunch of junkyard dogs. Great defense - "Black Swarm"
4. Hugh Freeze - proven to be able to beat Saban. Wants the job. Has some skeletons but we are kind of at the point where you might as well be willing to take someone with a whole graveyard worth of them
5. Doc Holliday - here's the guy you want if you want someone who can stabilize the program. Great recruiter, great coach. Very solid. Wouldn't be the flashy hire but could get the team back where you want them to be
6. Jimmy Lake - was a genius DC before getting the WU job this year. Not a big sample size but he has been a top flight defensive coach

Another DC as a coach is only putting us further behind the curve of college football....OFFENSE is the key to winning these days....teams will score 30 in a blink....if you can't match that you can't win alot of games....the days of steel curtain defense are few and very far between
Having a HC with a defensive background does not put you behind. Now, if you hire someone from the defensive side to be HC, you have to hire a high quality OC and then...and this is the important part....let him run the offense and quit micromanaging the side of the ball you know nothing about.

JP could have been great here, but his micromanaging instead of being CEO has been the cause of his demise.

He won at Ole Miss, are you kidding me?
He never won the west at Ole Miss so no I'm not kidding you. Yes he beat Bama a couple of times but look at his record 2012 7-6, 2013 8-5, 2014 9-4, 2015 10-3, 2016 5-7. None of those were SEC West Champions, 1 10 win season, and the rest are average 7 wins. If that is championship winning then we should have kept Butch.

Again, that was at Ole Miss. I think you're missing the point

Look, Fulmer has played and coached here. Now he's the AD. Orange blood does not always guarantee success at the highest level. I don't really give a fart where the guy comes from, where he's been, or who he is. I want a guy who will bring passion for winning, a culture of winning, a passion for player development, and a never say die attitude. We have not had that in a long time. Kiffin was the closest we have had since 2001.

No I get he had 10 win at Lambuth and Arkansas State but we aren't playing in those conferences and you have to admit they do have lesser talent than even our lower tier programs. Lambuth is a small conference and Arkansas St is sunbelt and no win against top 25 teams. I am judging him on his SEC experience since he has been an SEC coach. Everyone is saying SEC experience and he has that and his SEC resume is not impressive enough to say he can do it here since he has to play those same teams he coached against. Go look at his record for top 25 sec teams wins in which we play every year.
