the only thing in common with baseball, football, and basketball is MH the weasel he must go for my alma maters sake. He is a loser pure and simple. He and he alone has done more harm to UT athletics that any 10 people you could name. Not being there for the team today is just another stick in the eye.

1) No. Fire a coach if he loses too much, or gets himself arrested. Fire him for punching a student, or for locking him in a closet, or for throwing a chair at him. But don't fire a coach with Pearl's level of success for this silly crap. He's been punished, with more punishment to come. That punishment need not include termination. We can and should get through this and keep moving on, rather than hire whatever coach we could get and go back to square one. That solution would take longer than waiting out Pearl's suspension.

I don't have a problem with a coach doing the later as long as he isn't doing the former.

Winning isn't everything is the losers credo.

Yes! you do realize he's on par with Jerry Green when he's not cheating right.

I know this is not a political forum, but I want to try to put things in perspective for a second. A few years ago, an American president pointed his finger at a worldwide audience and said "Now, I have to go back to work on my State of the Union speech. He was impeached by the House of Representatives on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice on December 19, 1998, and never lost his job.

That doesn't give a free pass to someone that tells a lie, however:

Coach Pearl admittedly made a mistake by lying, and recanted and apologized shortly after. He allegedly committing secondary violations (I say allegedly, because he hasn't had a chance to respond to the NCAA), which I think are commonplace for any coach of successful teams (except for the handful of elite coaches that don't have to resort to this to compete). I agree his timing with the bump was crappy, but ask John Pelphry how cutthroat this business is. Big money has driven college football and basketball to the brink of insanity. That coupled with fan bases that want-it-all-and-want-it-now, has created an almost impossible scenario.

1. If he's a crappy coach, fine, fire him.
2. If he's had a crappy year, don't we all.
3. If it's all the other stuff, don't let #2 cloud your judgement.

Sorry, but I just had to say that. Torch me all you want.

Oh yes, no excuse for what Hamilton did in the interview. He's outta here...

I'm a big Pearl fan, but yes he should be fired. He lied to the NCAA, which in my opinion should be a fire-able offense.

Mike Hamilton should have been gone after the Kiffin fiasco.

He took a calculated risk. Accept a secondary violation and get a slap on the wrist, or lie, have your assts lie, and ask a recruit and his father to lie and hope the NCAA can't prove anything, knowing if they can, it now becomes a major violation. My math says that was bad arithmetic on CBP's part. Does someone who takes such a pointless risk deserve to keep his employment? If you believe so, then we'll just have to agree to disagree. And for the record, he only came clean when he knew he was caught. He didn't do it because it was the right thing to do. That does make a difference, whether you want it to or not. As for the everyone lies arguement, you're right. But not since childhood have I told a lie that would get others in trouble. I take responsibility for my actions and face the piper when I get caught, but I never drag others down with me. Pearl hurt the entire university with one, poorly thought out lie. If he had integrity, he would end all of this and fall on his sword by tendering his resignation. He should not take the program down with him.
