Not good, didn't want to hear that. I think it's wise to give CJH all he needs to get his offense going. By some of the year to year stats given here on VN, he has a good track record for offense and QB progression. But winning and losing with scores in the 30s or 40s tells me defense is NOT the strong suit here. He needs White and others to get him someone who can create the defensive equivalent to his offense.

We need, but haven't had, an offense that can be better by 7-10 ppg than its defensive numbers, regardless of final score. Anyway, I do not support giving the HC all the keys. As AD, under normal circumstances, it would not not happen. Maybe sharing, but never giving.

He signed a 2yr/450k contract with us. All guaranteed. Auburn owes him 2 million for his buyout. Outkick is saying they have already let Steele walk.

Fulmer thought he was going to stay and one of his boys was going to be the next coach and he could still have his fingers all over it........wrong. He is a good DC but there other other options out there that are as good or better.

I am just curious but who are the realistic DCs out there who are as respected, Has the track record, experience and recruiting chips in the South as Steele?

Stele is an ok DC. He’s not great by any means. He’s a great Tennessee alum whom I respect. But as a DC he’s just ok. Let the new crew see if they can upgrade. They’re far smarter men than we are.

To me this would be a foolish move. Heupel has no SEC experience. Steele has like 20 years of experience in the conference. He could've benefited from having an SEC veteran in his corner.

It may be time to think differently about who we hire. there are great DC all over the country. Auburn wasn't in the top 50 last year in total defense in the country with Georgia at #12 and Ala. # 32. I know that is arguable when we say but were the SEC but I would look at some of the coaches in top 50 and give them a call.

Tennessee recruits all over the country we always have and always will. Arguably our best best player this year was from Cal. so the old argument of they have to be able to get kids from the south isn't really true. Today just like in the past we have to get the best we can from all over the country, That is why we have the largest if not one of the largest recruiting budgets in the country.

Nobody takes head coaching job and are told " we already hired your DC, but you can hire the rest of your staff". Fulmer cost UT the money to get his buddy in there to be interim and UT said were going in a different direction. Head coach picks HIS staff period! Come on man!
