Steele may not happen. Not good if true.

Do we have the players on hand to run his high scoring offense style? Our QBs are young and we lost Chandler and Gray. Styles are fine if you have the talent. I remember Sal's 3-4 defensive scheme. What a nightmare

I have been pretty positive about this hire. But if this is true then it will change things for me significantly. Steele is a very good and well respected DC who can recruit and develop. He has great ties to the South. This could hurt big time.

I just heard a couple media members saying run away from Steele, he's a rat.

Ansley is going to the Chargers.

Jay Graham to bama (this sux)

Maybe Steele will get the DC position?

That's the last of the Defensive Coaches from CJP staff.

Yes, it was. It's a sign that the administration wasn't on the same page with how to proceed following the termination of Pruitt. It appears as though the initial plan was for Fulmer to remain AD, name Steele as a one year interim, and gauge how well Steele performed.. and then conduct a more thorough search if Steele wasn't working out. My guess is that this was what Randy Boyd wanted to do, but then Plowman changed course.

In these times of seeing secret conspiracies everywhere, I tend to suspect the same or something very similar. I suspect that Steele came here at Fulmer's urging with the top job in mind, either as a long term interim or as a permanent HC replacement. He didn't come her to be a DC for some other head coach. If correct, the success of such a plan probably relied on Fulmer remaining as AD and controlling the new HC search. Then, after the commitment to Steele was made, Fulmer's own job stability also became less clear, leading to his sudden retirement announcement at the very same time Pruitt was fired for cause. None of us really know why Fulmer retired so suddenly, but maybe he had more knowledge of the violations than the bosses initially knew or maybe it became obvious to the administration that he should have known more about the problems. Whatever the cause, when Fulmer goes, Steele's ability to get the big job becomes much more tenuous. Nevertheless, he is still named interim. Then, after the arrival of the new AD, Steele's opportunity to actually land the HC position vanishes when it goes to Heupel. Steele's HC shot likely depended on Fulmer's stability as AD. Fulmer leaves and now Steele may leave because either: 1) he never had interest in the DC position at all; or 2) the new AD and/or HC has/have no interest in having him on the staff. We are unlikely to ever know whether his departure will be his own idea or Heupel's. Similarly, we may never know why Fulmer suddenly retired. The best laid plans... Go Vols!

It's no secret Steele tried to get Gus's job behind his back. Couple that, with Steele and Fulmers relationship all these years. Is it really surprising CJH would have concerns about retaining him in ANY capacity? It isn't to me.
That rumor has been blown way out of proportion.

Do you really think JH is worried about Steele driving a wedge between him and Danny White, the guy who has now hired him at two different schools?

The fact of the matter is that Steele recruited and ran the defense completely seperate from Gus and the offense at Auburn. That's exactly what we need right now.

That seems to be the majority position on Shannon. Not being argumentative but care to share why? His resume seems solid at first glance, though his defense at UCF couldn’t keep up. Is that on him or a result of the speed of their offense? I fear that even the best DC may have trouble putting up good stats with the number of plays that will have to be defended.

So if Steele goes does that mean UT has pissed away 8 million. 6million in UCF buyouts and 2 million for Steele.

Good grief.

If Steele leaves on his own we don't owe him anything. Plus this is still cheaper than what we would have had to pay Pruitt.

He definitely is. Have heard numerous stories about Steele from my Auburn friends. Needless to say he isn't exactly the cleanest coach out there. There's a reason he's such a great recruiter, just like Rodney Garner. Probation waiting to happen with either of them.

If he is gone, his hiring was nothing more than a good ole boy bank account bump from Fulmer to Steele. Thanks for the 1/2 mil hit Phil. Geez.
