A locale for posting predictions, real time comments, and post- SOU reaction.

I'll start and I believe both sides will take an approach which unfortunately fans tribalism rather than calms it.

I predict the Dems will attempt some stupid stunt that will fall flat and show them as even more disconnected from reality. There's a lot of low hanging fruit there for them, i.e. Trump hasn't done anything to cut prices and his tariffs will be inflationary, RFK being less than certain in his comments about Measles vaccine. But knowing the Dem leadership, they'll make it about immigration or the like, where Trump is already killing them.

Trump has an opportunity to calm concerns about how tazmanian devil the whole DOGE thing has been, to lay out a more deliberate path for government efficiency. He can do the same with tariffs, and make is seem less fickle. But he won't. He will speak to his base and alternatively brag on himself and blame Biden.

The big problem for Democrats is that most of the things Trump has done so far is supported by the majority of Americans. They need to step outside their echo chamber and read the room. An overwhelming majority of Americans don't want males playing against females in Sports or going into their locker rooms. That's an easy win for Trump. Most Americans approve Trump shutting down the border and kicking out criminal illegal aliens. Another easy win. Saying prices are high kind of falls flat since they were high for 4 years under Biden and Trump has only been in office for a little over a month. I think the prices argument won't gain steam until later this year if they are still high. Most Americans support DOGE and want the wasteful spending stopped. Trump wins again. Bringing people who were fired by DOGE won't move the needle when most Americans think the Government was too big and needs to downsize. Today Zelensky said he wants to come back and sign the mineral deal and is ready to pursue peace under President Trump's direction. He did a 180 from last week after Trump paused aid. Another win for Trump............

Tariffs, tariffs, tariffs. Anyone worried about anything else at this point has lost the thread. I find it hard to believe anyone wants those in place (if they do, they simply don't understand what's happening, but they soon will).

That's true but I have a hard time seeing the Dems make the SOU about that this year. Its just not that big of an issue and going there can serve only to help Trump.

Agree and that's why the Dems should stay away from that.

I partially agree. The problem is that Trump said over and over and over again that he'd bring prices down immediately and inflation is creeping up, only gaining steam after the tariffs. He is set up to fail on this one because he's taking inflationary steps. The Dems would be wise to discuss how much inflation is expected to rise given those policies and to play clips of Trump promising immediate relief, then show him spending his time on renaming the Gulf of Mexico, declaring English the official language, and wanting to take over Greenland.

I agree, but only in the short term. If inflation rises and government becomes even less responsive due to lack of employees, in time that could backfire.

Zelensky has to say this. The issue is a security guarantee and while Ukraine may have to give up some portion of its territory to give Putin a domestic W, given Putin's track record I think most Americans -- even those that want to see Trump broker a deal -- recognize that the deal is worthless if there is not some significant penalty to Putin when (not if, but when) he violates it.

I hope Trump goes off script when the Dems sit and the Republicans roar, when he discusses keeping men out of women’s sports.
