I probably shouldn’t be posting this in the recruiting forum, but honestly the gloom and doom of the football forum doesn’t sit very well with me. It’s been a long time since I’ve been this excited about the future of our program. Dooley and Co. are doing an unbelievable job building the program the right way…. I was very skeptical about the whole character first approach he insisted on taking when he got here because, let’s face it, a lot of high profile recruits come with baggage. It just is what it is….. Now that I’ve had time to see him and his staff in action though I have to admit I’m impressed. The state and future of our program is sound my friends.

I currently live in Arkansas so I get a good chance to see them in action on a regular basis. The spread offense scheme they’re running right now is similar to what Chaney is using at UT. I look at what they’re doing on offense with inferior talent and can only imagine how our offense is going to look next year when we’re firing on all cylinders.

There is not another team in the country that will have more talent at WR.

Bray will be healthy and have another year in the offense.

The offensive line will have another off season of conditioning under their belts, which should improve their ability to run block. Let’s face it, we had one year to beef these guys up and have them ready to compete on Saturdays. Adding the necessary size in such a short period of time has a negative impact on athleticism. They’ll spend this off season getting that back, which means they’ll be able to get to the next level when they are blocking. We should have 7 or 8 SEC caliber O linemen ready to roll next year….

I believe Lane and Neal will get it done at RB. The holes will be bigger… Lane will be fully recovered from his knee injury. (The lingering effects have held him back quite a bit this year.) Neal has the size, speed, etc. to be an elite running back in the SEC. And let’s not forget Young. When defenses have to respect our full arsenal of weapons he should be able to find quite a bit of space on the field.

Defense…. Youth has shown up at some of the most inopportune times this year. We play teams close in the first half and can’t hold on for the duration. DEPTH will help that next year. We will have DEPTH on both sides of the ball. I realize this is a word that is very unfamiliar at this point because we have had absolutely none for the past few years, but the talent is building. With this recruiting class we’re gonna be in decent shape. We’ll still be young and thin at a few spots but it will still be an improvement over what we have now. I’m excited about the young guys who are being tried by fire this year. I like Wilcox and think he will be awesome when he gets the personnel in place to run the defense he wants too..

THE STATE OF OUR PROGRAM IS IMPROVING. WE HAVE WEATHERED THE MAJORITY OF THE STORM.

Ironic that it ended up in the Football Forum with a Basketball icon.

Instead of "Football" & "Recruiting" forums, we should rename them "Negative Nancies" & "Future is Bright" forums. Something for everyone. :loco:

What did you expect to get out your post OP??

I too am looking forward to our future with Dooley & Co. I think the bleeding is starting to stop, and now it's time to heal.

One thing i would add to to the depth part of the argument is that it's so bad that we don't practice versus SEC caliber depth. That hurts us imho. Half our starting squad wouldn't start for the current SEC leaders, and probably find it tough to make 2nd string, so when we play them we aren't going to do very well and that has shown. Looks like Dooley & Co. are dong well on the recruiting trail, so I'm optimistic about our depth in the future.

Nice try to bring some optimism to the Football forum...but just not going to happen. Some people on here are just some sad sad folks...

Yes I will readily admit that I am SAD. Bad sad. It's pitiful when the best feeling you have had since the 1998 championship game Is the lone sec win against Vandy. However, I will readily admit that Dooley seems to have the program headed in the right direction, which is more to be excited about than we have had in several years
