Starting QB for next year?

It will most likely be between Peterman and Dobbs and won't be determined till sometime in spring. One of the freshman would have to really show out to win it.

groundbreaking insight.

So let me get this straight, the Coach will determine a QB from the group of potential QB's that we have. Thanks

Dobbs
Peterman
Austin / Dormandy

unless we sign that older kid out out Denver.. Meyton Panning, i suspect he would start if he decided to play for Coach Jones.

Focus here. Butch has said, in a press conference for all to hear, that Dobbs is being redshirted. Now, why would they redshirt/keep a guy around an extra year, if they he can't play, if they think he has no future with the team.

I just said that Worley was the best option this year, better than both Dobbs and Peterman, so that's not at issue. The question is, who does the staff think is the better option at qb for next year and beyond? I think their red shirting Dobbs goes a long way towards giving us the answer. Add in the fact that as a 17 year old true freshman that he performed much better than Peterman last year and there's no doubt in my mind that it's Dobbs and not Peterman next year.

...and again you are dead wrong. Your imagined speculations about a coaching decision defy what actually happened. Peterman won the second position by vastly outperforming Dobbs in summer competition. He was the best passing QB in the stable - despite your inability to accept that fact.

Freshmen Q.B.'s start all the time in the S.E.C. Manning, Brandon Stewart, Aaron Murray, Ainge, Schfer, Bray, Clausen, Matthew Stafford.

Outside the S.E.C. Matt Barkley, T. Pryor, RG III, Kevin Kolb, Braxton Miller, T. Bridgewater, Josh Freeman.

I'm totally interested in seeing how Dormady comes in and performs. At the end of the day I sit and think about the possible play next year based off what has been seen so far from our current two top runners and I hate to say it makes me just as nervous as I am about Worleys health going into Oxford this week. ive never posted anything negative on this forum, and I don't consider this negative, but more so the truth.

If Peterman, Dobbs, or Dormady gets the job I'll be behind them. Hopefully, and surely both Peterman and Dobbs will improve before that time.

Based on current facts, Peterman is the starter next year. He has been ahead of Dobbs since last years. The only reason Dobbs played last year was because he was the only QB standing. Worley, Peterman and Ferguson were all unable to go due to injuries. It was obvious that Dobbs had a lot to learn on how to play QB.

Starting Peterman last year against Fla, in hindsight, was not a good idea. He was not ready for that venue plus he got hurt and was not available for the rest of the year. Against GA this year he was handicapped by the obvious coach's decision to play conservative while he was in the game. He apparently felt the apprehension of the coaches and did not play confidently. Against UTC he was much more relaxed, partly because of the situation but also because he could run the playbook and wasn't limited in what he could do.

Advance to next year with additional coaching and experience he will still be ahead of Dobbs and he certainly begins the season as the starter (usual caveat about injuries).

Incoming Freshman QBs are a wildcard, but unless there is some outstanding talent there, experience will start.

You would think someone is looking at an outstanding Juco that can come in early next year if thats possible. If not then someone needs to really come on strong and not wait until their Senior to figure things out.

I'm 6'5 225 strong arm. Quick release. And I can run. I've been a Vol fan all my life. I hate Bama, Florida and Vandy. I have committed to play for the University of Tennessee because Butch Jones is a hell of a coach. Were going to do great things.

Praying we read this somewhere soon.

Is this Bo Wallace?:eek:lol:

Not sure what you are talking about here.
Nobody is comparing Worley to Dobbs in this thread.
When Worley went down in the Ga game it could have been for the year. CBJ made a decision to go with the QB who gives us the best shot to win that game. Do you remember who he went with? Peterman was ahead of Dobbs on the depth chart last year. He beat Dobbs out again this year. You can think that Dobbs is better and you could right but the question is who will CBJ start next year. If history is any indication it will be Peterman. I personally want to see whoever gives us the best chance to win.
Whoever that is

would have, could have, should have......

No he hasn't :eek:lol: Exactly what game did you watch where he hit the long ball?...He threw for 53 total yards against Vanderbilt last year and could not even get the ball to the end zone from the 50 on the last play of the game....His first td pass of the season was against Kentucky and the UK defender had the interception and our guy took it away from him LOL..Dobb's is being red shirted for DEPTH at the position.

uh.....THE SPRING GAME.....and in the mizzou game, but smith dropped it

Peterman vs Florida had Josh "Drops McGee" Smith and Company. North didn't hit the switch until Dobbs was playing. Receivers dropped a lot of balls from Peterman.

db's from other teams caught a lot of balls from him as well. so did the folks on the sidelines and the grass blades

Playing against non starters. Why does Peterman not get a pass vs non starters but Dobbs' score vs non starters is a pass

because during last season, Dobbs played against starters.....and won....duh!

why do you hate dobbs so much?

Once again, you are dead wrong. Dobbs is not 'being saved for next year'. He was trounced by Peterman in summer competition. Peterman was vastly more accurate with hundreds of throws - despite your superficial dismissal of Peterman.

Boy, taking this kinda personal aren't you? We disagree. Just one question though...why exactly is Jones planning on redshirting Dobbs?

Btw, my dismissal of Nathan is not superficial, it's quite real. He's by all accounts a great kid, great teammate, hard worker. But as both Ainge and Swain have said of him, he's a very good practice player, he's just not a gamer.

I wasn't comparing Worley to Dobbs either, I was telling you what I'm pretty sure CBJ's approach is. Ask CBJ how he feels about depth charts. Once again you seem to be stuck on depth charts and things you heard from the "all knowing" media.

Better question, why was CBJ so intent on wanting a dual threat QB when he first came here but now he recruits both a dual threat QB and a pro style QB in the upcoming season?

The same reason for all redshirts.
He's not good enough now and needs time to grow.

He wasn't good enough this year to beat out a starting senior qb, agreed. But You don't redshirt a kid that's not good enough to significantly contribute to your program going forward. We already know that he performs much, much, much better than Peterman in a live game when the bullets start flying.

By redshirting him, the staff is investing an additional year in him, not moving him on and out of the program. Jones said a couple weeks ago that Josh is gonna make great contributions to the program in years to come. Unless either Dormady or Jennings are freshman prodigies, I think those contributions start next year as our starter.

Jennings can run the spread like a beast. With him at qb, and Hurd (with the studs we have coming in at rb) in the backfield it's gonna be a monster running game. In know he will only be a freshman, but the kid can clearly run the spread well. I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't the starting qb next year, but I see him playing qb in his future at ut.

Or the year after Peterman leaves.
