Focus here. Butch has said, in a press conference for all to hear, that Dobbs is being redshirted. Now, why would they redshirt/keep a guy around an extra year, if they he can't play, if they think he has no future with the team.
I just said that Worley was the best option this year, better than both Dobbs and Peterman, so that's not at issue. The question is, who does the staff think is the better option at qb for next year and beyond? I think their red shirting Dobbs goes a long way towards giving us the answer. Add in the fact that as a 17 year old true freshman that he performed much better than Peterman last year and there's no doubt in my mind that it's Dobbs and not Peterman next year.
Freshmen Q.B.'s start all the time in the S.E.C. Manning, Brandon Stewart, Aaron Murray, Ainge, Schfer, Bray, Clausen, Matthew Stafford.
Outside the S.E.C. Matt Barkley, T. Pryor, RG III, Kevin Kolb, Braxton Miller, T. Bridgewater, Josh Freeman.
I'm 6'5 225 strong arm. Quick release. And I can run. I've been a Vol fan all my life. I hate Bama, Florida and Vandy. I have committed to play for the University of Tennessee because Butch Jones is a hell of a coach. Were going to do great things.
Praying we read this somewhere soon.
Not sure what you are talking about here.
Nobody is comparing Worley to Dobbs in this thread.
When Worley went down in the Ga game it could have been for the year. CBJ made a decision to go with the QB who gives us the best shot to win that game. Do you remember who he went with? Peterman was ahead of Dobbs on the depth chart last year. He beat Dobbs out again this year. You can think that Dobbs is better and you could right but the question is who will CBJ start next year. If history is any indication it will be Peterman. I personally want to see whoever gives us the best chance to win.
Whoever that is
No he hasn'tlol: Exactly what game did you watch where he hit the long ball?...He threw for 53 total yards against Vanderbilt last year and could not even get the ball to the end zone from the 50 on the last play of the game....His first td pass of the season was against Kentucky and the UK defender had the interception and our guy took it away from him LOL..Dobb's is being red shirted for DEPTH at the position.
Once again, you are dead wrong. Dobbs is not 'being saved for next year'. He was trounced by Peterman in summer competition. Peterman was vastly more accurate with hundreds of throws - despite your superficial dismissal of Peterman.

Boy, taking this kinda personal aren't you? We disagree. Just one question though...why exactly is Jones planning on redshirting Dobbs?
The same reason for all redshirts.
He's not good enough now and needs time to grow.
He wasn't good enough this year to beat out a starting senior qb, agreed. But You don't redshirt a kid that's not good enough to significantly contribute to your program going forward. We already know that he performs much, much, much better than Peterman in a live game when the bullets start flying.
By redshirting him, the staff is investing an additional year in him, not moving him on and out of the program. Jones said a couple weeks ago that Josh is gonna make great contributions to the program in years to come. Unless either Dormady or Jennings are freshman prodigies, I think those contributions start next year as our starter.
