Staff got out-coached and players played uninspired and sloppy

Not if we were playing an SEC caliber team

We let Timmy from South Park take us to 12 rounds when we should of TKOd in the 1st

Well NT might have went 12 rounds, but they were just stumbling and bumbling around the ring the last 8 rounds. I never felt like the game was in jeopardy.

I think many of us fans (myself incl) might be too quick to freak out ab this game. There's a lot to not be satisfied with, but today was a prime example in showing that even the top teams will occasionally struggle against a lesser opponent. And last week's close win over USCe and NT today are slightly concerning, but maybe we are being overly critical of this team. Despite the early season woes, they're winning games now, so they're doing something right. Hopefully, this makes the team realize they might not playing good enough to win out and will work that much harder.

I will say as a previous student, this is a tough time in the semester that definitely affects these 18-22 yo. Balancing being a football player at a major cfb program plus a college workload has got to be tough. I can't comment on being a cfb player in the SEC, but I would say it's as tough as working 55-60 hours a week while being a ft student...by November, it all takes a toll on you.

I'll simplify....They played flat the one game they could afford to. Lucky it was against NT.

Winning by 24 means we got out-coached?

Given the context, yes it does. NT is an absolutely terrible football team. The 24-0 score doesn't illustrate the bad effort or coaching that was obvious to everyone.

I only hope that it was due to the fact that the team is depleted with injuries and had a very conservative game plan to minimize the chance of more injuries.

Well...blocking wasn't the problem today and it wasnt against Arkansas either. He is not a good throwing QB. He has other attributes, but on the whole he is the reason why the passing game isn't taken seriously by the vast majority of teams that have beaten the VOLS. It's my observation....and it could be wrong. OTOH, it is a team effort and Dobbs isn't the only reason why the team struggles at times....but it isn't 100% and only coaching as many on here profess.

Let's just chalk this up to you don't like Dobbs and disagree with me that there could actually be other factors besides Dobbs that just might be affecting the passing game and leave it at that.

A week after Dobbs alluded to taking their feet off the gas I think the head coach took his foot off the gas as not to embarrass his friend on the opposing sideline yesterday.

Jones could just as well been Canales' agent yesterday with his comments in the post game conference.

We are bowl bound already with two winnable games still to be played... Can you guys be satisfied for once??

This is the pathetic prevailing attitude of acceptance.

I give Butch credit for the great recruiting job. Outstanding, but what about doing something with that talent? Butch is underwhelming. Look at Harbaugh, he's getting much more out of much less.

Hey look, yay, we're bowl eligible. So is Memphis! Have we really sunk to this level? Hoping to beat Vandy at home? Really?

Once again, we put up a good 1st quarter. Then thud. It's painfully obvious that Debord does not, cannot, adjust during the game. And when North Texas manhandles your Oline it's damned embarrassing.

Call me negative, call me what you want, but aiming for the Belk Bowl is not my idea of annual success.

Based on the play in the past 2 games your definition of "winnable" may be a stretch. Mizzou had a big win last night, vandys defense has played great all year and their offense found a way to score 3 touchdowns yesterday.

Can Tennessee win? Yes. Will they win? I am not confident but am hopeful yesterday was a fluke.

Is it possible that UT played an easily winnable game with a vanilla offense? Maybe the focus was on staying injury free? Maybe they didn't want the two remaining stout defenses to have a look at some plays that are coming? *Just trying to be optimistic!

CBJ and staff were not outcoached.

If it is anything...it is one of two things. Either the scheme is too hard or Dobbs really isn't all that. I'm choosing the later. It should be evident why Worley started last year to anyone who can objectively watch a football game. While I love Dobbs as an individual and example for young athlete...he isn't a good QB, at all. 23-30% of the time he is remarkable...but it's generally when the play breaks down and he has to make something out of it. 15-20% he is extremely average and doesn't do anything to hurt the team. 50% of the time he is inaccurate or makes a boneheaded play.

He is so bad as a passer that teams can sell out to stop the run. Dormady didn't even have a chance to shine playing behind the 3rd string line and still did ok.

Time to call it what it is....it isn't conservative play calling...it's an inconsistent QB that cannot complete a vertical pass when it has to be done. Sorry...I want the kid to excel and this team to be great, but that is what I saw today against probably one of the worst teams in FBS. Nobody...even NTSU respects our ability to pass the damn ball and that my friends....proverbially...is what it is.

It's the scheme:

I have no doubt that Tennessee could have put up as many points as they wanted to. The team was uninspired and just went out flat. These games are simple. They go out and play just hard enough to win without getting hurt. What is gained by hammering a team like North Texas?

What is gained?

Improvement; respect for the university you represent; displaying the results of a week of productive/strategic practice; showing a product on the field respectful to the immense fan support/tickets purchased for a sub-division scheduled team; showing appreciation for the scholarship opportunity to obtain an education from top tier university.....

what is gained?

self-pride in being "the man" for each and every position on that field....either as a player or as a coach.

I don't buy the belief that CBJ went soft not to hammer his good friend. No SEC coach is going to ease off the pedal so a Conference USA coach to "look good".

It was a poor effort against a sub, sub, sub tier football squad. Let's call it what it is and hope for/expect to climb out of the mediocre rut we've been in.

Anything less is not worthy of one bit of praise.

They didn't mind hammering W Carolina. There goes that theory....

UT needs to stop scheduling these bad teams late in the season - the team and fans show up flat

Vandys offense didn't score three yds yesterday. Their defense scored once and a turnover also led to another because of great field position. Tackling any kentucky player is much different than tackling Hurd. I promise you that. Also they had two huge redzone stops. We will win easily.

I honestly wonder why some people even follow Tennessee, except to hate on them.

Look who is back. Still waiting for you to prove me wrong where I said we are now bowl eligible in back to back seasons for the first time in years, without having to worry about winning out to get there....

What are you talking about? I never said we weren't bowl eligible. You're just wanting to argue.

It's homecoming, teams are always going to try to have a cupcake on the schedule for this game. It doesn't really bother me, other than when you don't play well in these types of games, it raises some troubling questions.

Only people who have an agenda (fire Butch and start the process again) will complain about winning a game. Sure it could've been better but we won and are now bowl eligible for back to back seasons for the first time in years and we didn't have to worry about winning out to get here. Quit your butthurt 'we didn't beat them bad enough' complaining and enjoy being better than we were last year.

There's no truth in anything he said and his claim is easily disproven. I don't want Jones fired, I want him and his staff to prove they can make adjustments and I want him to be able to motivate players, regardless of the opponent, to perform to a higher level of consistency.

This is what I'm talking about. If you want to take issue with the first part of my post fine. But everything else is true and you said there is no truth in anything I posted, which is false.
