They have issues with passing and turnovers. They have played one decent team in their undefeated season so far (Clemson). We should handle them in Knoxville.

They are a good team but will be tough to beat us in TBA.. especially with 1st yr starter at PG, lost Abernathy, we should be able to turn them over 20+ times and win by double digits

That Clemson team soundly thrashed Bama yesterday by 26 points. Dwayne Curtis and Chris Warren are Ole Miss's leading scorers, followed by Polynice. To be honest, I haven't seen them play yet, but this is a heck of a test to begin conference play on the 9th.

Alabama is terrible.

We're playing Ole Miss at home. We'll be fine.

Dwayne Curtis will torment us all night long on the inside. The rebounding advantage for UM should be unthinkable if we rebound like we have against Xavier and Gonzaga.

Curtis, Williams, Parnell, and Polynice are all big time rebounders. They'll be a huge challenge. I'd still be very surpised if a team with that inexperienced a backcourt beat Tennessee in Knoxville.

Curtis is one of the top players in the conference and will be a challenge for us inside especially on the boards. We should be able to pressure their guards and force turnovers and with the home court advantage win the opening game of the SEC season.

Rebounding will be a problem, but I think the difference will be made up plus some with transistion points off turnovers.

Tennessee's relentlessness on deffense and offense will wear them down.. and it will cause their guards to have many turnovers.

I played against the two wing players Polynice and Huertas several times in high school in Florida. Huertas is a Florida transfer and was always overrated in high school imo. He is a good spot up shooter, hit 5 threes last night, but is one-dimesional on offense and very weak physically. Polynice is a different story, he was really a late bloomer who didn't get very many D1 offers. He's a very versitile player, about 6'5 or 6'6 with very long arms. He'll play all three guard positions and chase Lofton all night. I was always impressed with Polynice because he played with Gary Clark (frosh at Wake) and even though I thought he was a better player, he never had a problem letting Clark get all the attention. He's a streaky shooter, but can slash to the basket and create for other players.

Dead on about Polynice. I think you'll be surprised at how much stronger Huertas is after a year in the weightroom on the old Cincinnati strength program.

Safe bets-
Williams will have at least 4 fouls trying to guard the strength Ole Miss has down low.
Lofton won't show up again, because of Polynice.
Chism will flop his way to least 2, if not 3 charging calls at home with BP in the refs ear and because of that Ole Miss physicality.
Tyler will try to display his outside skills in order to exploit whichever big ends up guarding him.

Bruce said he wants to open up TS a little more and let him play looser. I think he's acknowledging that Lofton is going to have to play his way out of his slump and is now turning over the reigns to TS.

sounds like this might be a game where Duke Crews would help out.

i don't know much about Ole Miss, but I know they beat us pretty soundly at their place last year, and even though their cast has changed, the director hasn't.

We didn't have Lofton during that game.

True - but they really dominated us in the second half on the boards. Not sure if Lofton would have made up the difference.

I haven't watched them this season yet, but between high school and AAU ball I'd played against them both quite a bit. Huertas was always a dead eye shooter which opened up his driving game, but he didn't ever finish very well. Has the added strength helped him a lot in that regard? Polynice was the type of player that had a lot of gifts like size, length, quickness, left-handed, I think it just took a while for him to realize how good he could actually be. I happy to hear he's doing well in Oxford.

they have a freshman PG, Chris Warren who looks pretty good. Averages about 15 points a game with 5 asst. and doesn't turn the ball over much

Huertas didn't get pushed around in when I saw them in person against Southern Miss. Larry's teams are always physical, so that's a decent test of a guy's progress in the weight room. That said, nobody's going to confuse Huertas with Jamont Gordon strengthwise.

Not sure about ole miss, but looked at their weak schedule and it does not impress me. They are big and rebounded very well against us last year, but I still c us winning. This is where the early games against west va texas xavier and gonzaga should pay off.
