ST and TE Coach Updates?

Siap, but pre Kiffin.
LWS, I'm a little concerned about Brewster. Wasn't there a faction of the boosters that wanted Brewster here as HC? I don't recall whether it was pre-Kiffin or pre-Dooley, but it seems like that was making the rounds at some point.

I've also seen/heard Greg Adkins mentioned, which would require some shuffling of duties I guess. His family never moved to Syracuse, they remain in Knoxville.

Are there two groups here, pushing for one or the other?

Billy Napier. He is at Alabama in some Administration position and Hart knows of him. He was the OC at Clemson, not very good at coordinating but an excellent recruiter with state of Georgia ties.

Is there someone other than Brester that you have been hearing LWS?

Dooley spoke with Salem at UCF and Robinson who was at UNC this week. guess didn't get enough to offer.

Greg Adkins would love to return to Knoxville (at Syracuse). he coached TE's when here last time. A decent recruiter and a very hard worker. one we could afford as well. I feel certain Dooley is aware of his interest.

and Napier. forgot him. Not sure Dooley has talked to him. Just a thought, Dooley could be waiting to see if Nick has something for him and if Nick doesn't, then he might come here.. jsut thinking out loud

I was a "fan" that wanted Brewster right after Fulmer and before they hired Kif. I'm huge beleiver in the head coach really understanding recruiting and understanding the task of recruiting to Tennessee. That was my reason for promoting Brewster. I'm not sure how much support he had. Don't think they intereviewed or contacted either time. Kiffin was the choice even before Fulmer got the axe if what I heard was accurate.

Adkins coached TE's when he first came to Knoxville. He can also coach special teams.. he is interested, very interested in returning..

I don't recall whether it was radio or Scout or ESPN, but I recall there being a rumor, that Brewster had some folks pushing for him. I was not anti-Brewster, at the time, I just didn't know a lot about him.

My concern in bringing him on now would be that a group/faction/party might be trying to set something in motion behind the scenes.

He's obviously qualified for any position he might be offered here.

As for Adkins, I realize there's probably some anti Fulmer folks that don't want anyone he employed. He recruited many great former Vols, so he's very familiar with the rigors of recruiting in the SEC, and his time up north could be put to use as well.

Can't really lose with either.

it was all over message boards. I was posting about it and I continue to hear about it. When he was bombing at Minnesota, lots of poster made fun of me for promotiing him for HC. He and Butch Davis were the two I was wanting. Even emailed Mike about Davis (did NO good). Mike had Kiffin in his pocket and really never looked anywhere else

Oh, I see...ha...no, I'm thinking more along the Haslam, Thornton etc...lines. Wasn't taking a shot at ya.

More referring to, well, like the baseball search, where you'd hear some in the AD liked Serrano, but others preferred Holbrook, that kind of thing.

LOL, god forbid ya step out on a limb here, pay for it for eternity.

I didn't take it you were.

I never heard about those guys pumping Brewster. Haslam wanted Dooley at that time... I don't thunder has much say anymore.. for quite a while...

I think Mike went out on limb with Kiffin and everyoen let him ride that choice. What I heard when he wanted to replace Fulmer he was told, your choice and you will be backed up. But if your play doesn't work out, you will not be here..

Do you feel like Dooley is waiting for the bowl season to end or do you think hes already picked Russells replacement?

Really quiet here. Im guessing this process has slowed due to recruiting.

Are you saying Haslam wanted to hire Dooley in 2008 after Fulmer was let go? If so that is very interesting.

That is my thought too. With a dead period starting today, I would expect something to happen here within the next week or so if they are looking at a coach who already has a job.
