Spring Practice #1

Copper is hurt quite a bit. A serviceable back up is a good plan to have.

As VAVol85 said, we still have Carvin (who I agree was much improved as last season went on). But Carvin's a senior, so it's nice to see them planning for the future. And with such an important position on the offense, it's good to see one of our most heralded recruits getting an early look.

Navy Shuler gets #21 -- pretty cool. Addison Nichols starting out at center, very interesting (heir apparent to Cooper and center of the future, maybe?).

Agree but center is a tough role for a freshman. And I thought Carvin was a decent backup. I was looking forward to having Nichols reach at tackle.

Also in this system, it pays to have every O Lineman be able to play every position.
Another thing is that you can never have too many capable O Linemen either - being able to rotate them often just keeps them fresher longer which means faster, faster, faster.

"It was Darnell Wright and Dayne Davis repping at right tackle today while JJ Crawford and Gerald Mincey were on the left side"

Interesting. I know AP mentioned that Darnell preferred to play RT. If he does stay at RT, getting Steen would be priority #1.

Who's Steen? Based off of what we saw last year, I think the offensive line might currently be the weakest unit on the team which isn't a good thing.

Can anyone confirm that Solomon is no longer with team.
Can't confirm but it certainly looks that way. Given our needs, I had hoped he'd hang and stake a claim to a starting role. Apparently, he's not happy or hasn't done what the staff wants. Wish him well, but it's one more spot for our portal shopping spree after the spring.

Another wanting to know more about this Steen person? A preferred walk on? Transfer? Anyone?

Why do you say that? They might not have been fantastic last year, but they were at least middle of the road. It's not like we didn't put up record setting numbers. The only thing I think they need to get better at is pass pro as they gave up too many sacks. QBs certainly played a role in that though.

Also Steen is a transfer from Vanderbilt

I like the sound of Herring already phyically looking like an SEC LB, that he is an Early Entry freshman, and even that he is 44 -- that just seems like a good # for a linebacker.

I think Cade and Carvin were two of the better players. Our depth was extremely thin last year, as seen when Cooper got hurt. If Wright moves to RT I think the line will be solid from C through RT, but the left side of the line doesn't give me confidence, and that's before injuries take place. I'm sure some people will step up.

But Carvin’s back…and at LG. So just LT?

Thanks
Well that sucks
Hope we get some defensive help in the portal

corners Warren Burrell, Kamal Hadden, Brandon Turnage and DeShawn Rucker are out for the entire spring

What’s going on with this? Injuries? Discipline?
