Can't afford much injury to this particular position. One injury and we will be into the freshmen right away. Expect to see a good bit of freshman participation at RB.
more touches for this guy, more touches for that guy, more touches all around. Do the people who call for one guy getting more touches sit down and think about it?
Kelly deserves a lot of touches, 20ish. Chandler has already been anointed the chosen one he needs lots of touches too, 10-15. TEs need more touches than last year, 10-15. Byrd needs touches all over the field, 5-10. Jennings, Calloway and other WR need touches too 30 at least. 5-10 QB rushes to go around as well.
thats already 80 touches on the low side. which is about what we average. this is also ignoring game flow and match ups and simply giving guys touches.
where/how does berry come in to play? and this isn't even considering the other RBs, and assuming a drop in QB runs.
get real people.
Chandler is bound to get more and more looks as the season goes on. That being said I expect CFA to get plenty of opportunities to prove he can play. His sample size is way too small at this point to predict anything either way.
If we have to give significant carries to any of the walk-on RBs then we're in some real danger offensively. Hopefully the top 3 can stay healthy enough to give us a solid rotation all year.
I do not think you would switch him full time. You'd just make some plays to get the ball in his hands. He is too good to only be KR. We have to start getting him the ball more. By designing some plays around Berry, it creates snaps for him to make explosive plays and gives the RBs a breather.
I know I'm going against the grain, but I expect CFA to surprise some people and become a solid #2 RB. Chandler getting scout team and maybe 2-3 carries a game.
I guess that you didn't watch the Orange and White game this past spring. CFA struggled in that game, he seems heistate when carrying the ball and he is woefully undersized to be a SEC RB. IMHO, if CFA is the second best RB on the team this year, the Vols are in big trouble.
Berry could have been moved to RB earlier. There was actually LESS depth before. This isn't a "deep" group. But they're as deep as UT has been under JOnes.
The only way you move Berry now is if UT runs out of RB's AND WR's.
