Speculation of RBs

Ty Chandler will be phenomenal for us, especially after JK goes pro and he will take over as the starter. He has a real chance to break records assuming these 3 things

1. He stays healthy
2. Our offensive line plays to their capability
3. He doesn't leave his junior year to go play wide receiver...lol

My only worry about Chandler as a freshman is his ability to understand audibles and pick up his blocking assignments on a blitz, think The Swamp this year, that sort of environment. Most frosh RBs when they enter the game except on obvious passing downs usually get the ball else they wouldn't be in there. It's when DCs try to take advantage of his inexperience in blocking SEC caliber defenders that makes me a little nervous but that comes only with playing time.

I can't disagree with his assessment. Ty has all the tools to be an elite SEC back.

Great speed! Even he's leaven. Great change of direction with vision, reminds me of Kamara. Didn't see anything I didn't like from that video. He's got it all it seems.

Guess that's why a lot of services had him the #2 back int he country.

Chandler will have a small block of about 10-15 plays that he is most familiar with.

CFA will be focused on finesse plays.

Evan Berry on speed kills a tired defense plays.

Kelly will be the workhorse.

You can hardly ride one RB all game, much less an entire season. So who do you folks think see as having success down the road besides Kelly. I expect Fils-aime to get many carries in the opening games, but even 2 is insufficient if you run the ball a lot. Will Chandler play early as a freshman? Jordan? Coleman?

Kelly, then Chandler, then CFA in situational/3rd downs. Wildcard is if one of the two lower rated incoming freshmen step up and are somehow ready to play. Otherwise, it's Kelly and Chandler barring injury.

We have plenty of depth at safety. Would switching Berry to RB full time be fair to him this late in his career? Would he get enough carries to justify the move? Is it too risky as far as his kick return duties?

Already tried moving Evan to RB, it didn't take. Let him continue to be the best kick returner in the country and backup Warrior or Abernathy/TKJr at safety. He is who he is.

I'm guessing we'll run Kelly like we did Hurd-- as hard and as long as he can go--with Chandler second on the depth chart. CFA will probably be used as a situational back. We're very thin on experience, so Chandler will have to play right away and we'll probably see at least one of the other FR, too.

This was one of the most amazing highlight films I've ever seen. The combination of cuts on a dime, spins, simply bulldozing guys, and start-stop speed was really, really impressive. Kudos to the editor as well for slowing down the film at key parts to show just how impressive each of those moves was. Plus everything I've read about this kid from his lawn-mowing business to his character has me really excited to watch him this year. Would have loved to have gotten Cam Akers but we're going to be fine with these hosses.

CFA will have to improve dramatically before September for me to believe he will be the #2... very underwhelmed so far... This next recruiting cycle we definitely need a RB with size and weight... like a -- Kam Pettway type from Auburn...

BTW, Ignont ran the ball some in high school, so he could be a 3rd down option power back... at 236# and probably 240# by the start of the season with Rock, he is pretty quick for his size...

Chandler and it's not even a close second.

I hope he's great. But the only thing we know about him right now is that he ran over HS competition in TN. I suspect he will be a part of the solution but CFA is being underestimated by many.

Pretty sure he played hurt during the spring. People are writing him off too early.

CFA has serious speed, but his size and durability have been concerns. He's injured a lot. He had shoulder, leg and ankle injuries in HS. He had a broken hand his FR fall camp and was injured again this spring. He's a gamer-- plays through injuries when he can-- but he's sidelined a lot. Looks like he has bulked up some in our new S&C program, so if he can stay healthy, his speed could be a weapon for us.

Competition is good, but it would be shocking if Chandler isn't in the 2-deep.

He played some pretty damn good competition and as we all know the competition has gotten better in state.

Yes, CFA has been dinged up quite a bit.... I am hoping he surprises folks this fall, but as of now I still think he has a lot of work to do ...

The only thing that scares me this year is the lack of a power back in the redzone. Dobbs took away that need for us the past couple years and we obviously had hurd as well. Who do yall think we call on for those goal line stand and tough yardage plays? Wilk it be a current, smaller back or will we possibly go the route of a linebacker or tight end like we did with AJ back in the day?

I think the coaches will dial up some plays for him-- maybe some trickery using his speed-- but his durability has held him back. He's still a question mark.

I know I'm going against the grain, but I expect CFA to surprise some people and become a solid #2 RB. Chandler getting scout team and maybe 2-3 carries a game.

I see Kelly as the clear cut starter, Chandler his backup getting 10-12, maybe even 15 touches per game and CFA a situational/3rd down back making his biggest contributions catching the ball out of the backfield
