Sources: UT Athletics Mulling New Apparel Deal With Adidas

Tell me the last time an Adidas school won a national championship in football? Was it us or Nebraska 20+ years ago? Outside maybe Kansas same goes for hoops.

I’m no fan of any of the shoe/apparel companies, but IMO Nike makes the best looking stuff hands down. Moving to Adidas will be a huge mistake.
None of this matters to the decision makers, it’s all about the money side of things. This could all be a bargaining chip to get a better deal from Nike 🤷.

While I’m obviously biased, UT seems like the ideal university for any apparel company given our recent success in all major sports.

Not to mention if Adidas is offering to make us their flagship school we need to jump on it.
Throw in a Run DMC reunion concert and I'm on board

For all the rumor of becoming their "flagship brand", they would need to pay us more than:

Louisville at $16M/year (signed 2017-2027)
Kansas at $14M/year (signed 2019 - 2033)
Washington at $11.9M/year (signed 2019 - 2029)
Nebraska at $11.6M/year (signed 2017-2028)

Can they afford all that? Would 2027 deal extensions then leapfrog us? Would we have to slap a giant Adidas logo into the stands of Neyland like Louisville does?

I don't think the 2027 extensions will leap frog us. But what I am skeptical about is that it will create a long term financial advantage for NIL which is allegedly a big selling point of this change.

I expect that once the terms are leaked in the industry many schools will pick up the phone and tell their respective brand hey Adidas just reset the market with Tennessee. We're gonna need to reopen the deal.

So whatever advantage is created I expect to last 3-4 years at most.

Re: Louisville - I wouldn't use Louisville as a template for what to expect out of a Tennessee-Adidas deal. Louisville pretty much whores themselves out for Adidas to get as much money as possible. Kentucky folks joke U of L would wear pink and purple if Adidas said they'd give them half a million.

Same, I only had one pair and thought I was awesome. I had a pair of light-up LA Gear that I thought were badass, too. Loved those things, they were purple and black with red lights on the back of the soles. Lol
Oh yeah if I remember right that was the thing right before the pumps! Had some as well.

Sources have indicated to Fanrun Sports that the likelihood of Tennessee Athletics moving its apparel rights from Nike to Adidas is “high.”

The University of Tennessee and Adidas have already met about a potential reunion, according to people familiar with the situation.

Adidas feels good about how the meetings went. They are going hard after Tennessee and landing the deal is currently their top priority.

It is accurate to say at this point that Adidas has presented an offer. The company was UT’s apparel partner pre-2015 when the school agreed to a deal with Nike.

The Adidas deal isn’t done yet, though, as Nike still has a card to play known as “first right of refusal.”

I know most won't like this but I'm for it. I'm a big guy and I always preferred the fit of Adidas T Shirts and Long Sleeves
This is terrible. Hated Addis’s when we had it If not Nike then they should have conversation with Under Armor

One of the few pairs of shoes I think of from the past was a sweet pair of Red Pony white stripe turf cleats. I had two pairs and loved them both playing Babe Ruth baseball. They were sweet.
In a rush my mom bought me Pony basketball shoes right before a middle school tournament. I swear they had a synthetic rubber and plastic sole. I slid around the court like I was playing on ice. That was the first and last time I wore them.

We could engrave the Adidas logo on the button up that the statue of the General is wearing, for an extra $1.6...

I seem to remember that there was an issue with Adidas balls that kickers didn't like for some reason? I want to say there was something the QBs didn't like as well. They are both woke companies and I'd personally rather not do business with either one, but on one hand the Nike uniforms look better and seem to appeal to recruits more, but i don't like the idea of creating revenue for the Oregon program.
Wilson is the standard for great footballs and should be used by all NCAA schools. There’s too much variation in all of the other brands.

Let's hope not. Nike at least gets our shade of orange correct and has tons of options for fans. Better cut and fit too, not so boxy like Adidas.
I hate Nikes fit! For a bigger guy I wear adidas all the time. Their quality is much better and there’s a reason why some of the richest and biggest teams in the world wear Adidas! Our fans are so limited to our small little world to not see that most of the biggest football(soccer) teams in the world wear Adidas. My son has wore both Nike and Adidas cleats and he has given up on the Nike. They look better but their quality sucks and somehow the last few years they have screwed up their cleating system, the grip was terrible. Also for the idiots saying that no top team plays for Nike, yeah, those top teams aren’t there because of Nike. They make more money on their Nike contracts while Nike wants to Penny-pinch UT but pay a boatload to OSU, UGA and Bama. They are not top teams because they wear Nike merchandise, they could be wearing New Balance and still be top teams. The extra money we will make will completely be in the athletic departments favor compared to where we sit now.
