No one has the right to the True Fan argument, because it's a well-known classic logical fallacy (ad hominem).
It is true. And your comment leads me to believe you think Pearl's on court success will be easily duplicated. Did I misinterpret your comment?

Also, there is no need to diminish his Elite Eight by labeling it a favorable draw (which it was). The draw is a crucial component to tournament success every year for all teams.A favorable draw to an Elite Eight is not something to keep him at all costs. Sadly that's a battle cry around these parts.

Not asking about could. Do you think, if Pearl is fired, Tennessee WILL hire a coach who WILL have as much or more success on the court as Bruce Pearl?Do I think there are plenty of coaches UT could hire that could win one SEC title in six years? Yes.
The Elite 8 run was fantastic and BP did a great job.
If it's true, it's true. Like it or not, there are a ton of folks around here who didn't follow UT basketball before Pearl. Coincidentally, they are the loudest segment of the "program be damned, I am standing behind Pearl" crowd.

I don't think that's true. The ones most reluctant to let Pearl go are the ones who suffered through the 90's, but don't remember success from 30 years ago.
Be that as it may, we're both guessing; and it's STILL a fallacy to say someone is "not a true fan" based on where they sit on the Pearl fence.
Don't be ridculous. There is no guarantee. The resources are here to be successful, and I seriously doubt we would go the cheap route when hiring a new coach. Over 2 mil could get you a damn good coach. Not asking about could. Do you think, if Pearl is fired, Tennessee WILL hire a coach who WILL have as much or more success on the court as Bruce Pearl?

See, I guess that's just where I think this view is extreme. With the success he's had, many 'bandwagoners' appreciate what Pearl has accomplished and probably follow the program more closely than ever. They've witnessed more wins, more consecutive tourney appearances (and wins), and a much better schedule than any time since Don DeVoe or Ray Mears. (I would argue Mears, but that's probably a topic for another thread). Like Gary Parrish said, Pearl has taken Tennessee to a level of national relevance it has never seen (in a very long time at least). How much time do you spend in TBA during basketball season?
Sure UT has had some failures. But what chaps most asses is the folks pretending Pearl is the Founding Father of UT Bball.

I don't think they believe basketball didn't exist before Pearl, they just remember a lot more failure than success.
