Source inside says CBP is gone. (rumor)

Using that kind of cowardly "Oh, God", this might not work" line of thinking, Tennessee would be about 40 years into Bill Battle's tenure as football coach. If you have an athletic director who can't hire a good coach with a renovated TBA, Pratt Pavilion, and $2.5 mil, you need a new athletic director.
If Pearl has to go, are we going to get a new AD before the next hire is made?

I haven't really heard anyone say UT would get a coach who could be as or more successful. People, me included, have said that UT could get a solid coach. Some of us thing more about UT than others I guess. The issue of Pearl being let go has nothing to do with wins. It has everything to do with the ongoing embarrassment he is bring, and will bring, to UT basketball. Don't forget that coaches have been fired for less. This "Bruce is Tennessee Basketball" is a joke. As I have said in the past, there is a long trail of coaches who became bigger than the program, and it didn't end well. Nolan Richardson comes to mind. When any man thinks he is irreplaceable, he is in dangerous territory. I haven't been around as long as some of you. I went to my first game in 1987 and have been as much UT bball fan as football since then. I, too was at games when you could pick your seat. Point is I remember the dark days of UT bball like many of you who cite those days as a reason to keep Pearl.I sat through the majority of games under Houston, ONeill, Green, Buzz, and Bruce......but I happen to think there is life without Bruce Pearl so I'm not a real fan. UT may or may not land a great coach after Pearl, that isn't the point. The point is UT bball very well could be in worse shape after this than before 2005, and Bruce Pearl isn't worth it. Go ahead and blast me

Personally, if we are going to fire Pearl, it should be for reasons regarding the NCAA investigation and nothing else. One subpar season doesn't merit a firing after a number of successful season. We still have top flight recruits waiting to see about our sanctions, so you know there's interest in Tennessee, developed by Pearl.

In my opinion, we would really have to be hit hard in order to lose any benefit of having Pearl as coach. I can deal with a 1 year swoon and keep Pearl, but, if it means 2-3 years + of garbage basketball and no decent recruit looking at us, then he needs to hit the road. All that depends on the sanctions.

Agree 100%

I respect that position but I think we need to move on if he is suspended for a year. Tony Jones as the HC for a season would be terrible.

That has been my view, not based on any sources, just knowing how the NCAA rolls. The thing I think will hurt most isn't his lie, it is his active recruitment of others to lie as well. When I read that in the letter from UT to Pearl, I thought he should go. I can certainly see and respect your take though.

Agreed. Unfortunately for all involved, if this investigation is really going to drag out, then they are going to need to do something before the NCAA's punishment is actually handed down. They can't wait around hoping that he won't get suspended or slapped with a show-cause.

The only way I would be for keeping pearl with a one year cusp would be if we could convince a retired coach to sign on for a one year gig. Hat mentioned dr tom davis and I'd not be opposed to giving devoe a call either.

I would rather have wade on the sidelines than jones.

If a preseason top 25 team that won the NIT doesn't make a field of 64 because of off the court distractions, the coach should be fired. To me it's that simple.

Should MH fire Pearl if they don't make the tournament?

I don't think so, unless he completely loses control of the team on the court and off it. If he was to come out of the investigation clean, stay on as coach and have the same problems next year it would be time to start thinking about a replacement.

That said, the on-court performance could make the termination process a lot easier if NCAA sanctions continue to appear to be likely.

Basically, the performance probably isn't helping his case right now.

I totally agree and could see it playing out that way.

Agreed.

I don't know that I would go that far. Some of the worst basketball I've ever witnessed was when Houston was on the sideline---talk about no effort, intensity, or defense, Houston was the perfect example.

From my source within the athletic department:

"Bruce Pearl will not return as the coach of the UT Men's Basketball team next season."

"The NCAA WILL suspend Bruce Pearl for one year and UT will lose scholarships in addition to the self-imposed and SEC sanctions."

Credible and reliable. Book it.

 Good!!!! hit the damn road Bruce!!!! Thank you very much for giving CPR to this program though. You will be missed, and apppreciated, but it is for sure time for change. I am sure Hamilton will hire a piece of crap to replace him, and the team will be garbage again though.

Better win it all this year.

:lolabove::lolabove::lolabove::lolabove::lolabove::lolabove::lolabove::lolabove::lolabove::lolabove::lolabove::lolabove: Good luck with that pipe dream. You have a better chance hitting the lotto without buying a ticket. This team is average AT BEST.

It would be completely impossible for us to have a decent coach or program except Pearl remain as coach.
