Source inside says CBP is gone. (rumor)

I am a parent in fact. I understand you point of view. Lying is usually not a good idea.
But my point is that other coaches have done alot worse with no suspensions.Maybe its just me, but just feel like the punishment doesn't fit the crime here.
Thats all.
I am for Pearl and if he is let go, the Basketball program is back a few years.
Probation I can see. 2 years likely.

Once the lying is out there, then that becomes the crime, not whatever the original thing was. And whether you're a parent or a boss or the NCAA or anyone else in a position of trying to impose your authority on someone who's not around you all the time, lying is about the worst crime there is.

The idiocy here is whatever possessed Pearl to think that a stupid barbecue was worth lying to the NCAA about to begin with. Hubris brings a lot of men down.

Whatever happens, I just want it to happen in April and not August so that we have a chance of doing something about it. But this may depend on the balls of Mike Hamilton, and that makes me nervous.

That's what gets me.

Admit to it, take the slap on the wrist and move on.

Nope. If he was going to fire him, he was going to do it back in September. We know what the letter will say. Most everyone does (unless something big we don't know about happened). Hamilton made his bed. Let's see how badly he'll have to lie in it.

That wasn't a possibility.

MH hasn't been afraid yet to cock the hammer back and pull the trigger..(Fulmer, Buzz, Delmonico)..you would be surprised what people will do to save their own butt...

The only motivation behind lying about that is that he was afraid of other things the NCAA might find.

Yeah, that's clearly the only motivation. Everyone who's ever lied about anything minor or insignificant without a doubt is hiding something deeper. No chance at all he simply thought he could get away with it.

If it was indeed "just because he thought he could get away with it" then I will be all the more annoyed.

Its unreal how bad things have spiraled in this program in 6 months. There was unprecedented optimism with this program before the violations were announced.

Yea, that explains why Pearl said he "panicked" when questioned about a minor violation that he knew if he admitted to committing would result in no punishment whatsoever. Perfect logic.

Either way logic fails so who knows. If you lie, the NCAA is more than likely going to know that's your house so they will snoop around more and if he was doing something more I doubt he would want them to do that. So either way, he lied and now we all await the punishment.

Remind me, was the question he was posed more along the lines of "Do you know where this is?" or "Is this your house?"

There is no way of knowing the outcome of Bruce Pearl after this season. The NCAA hasn't come out with their punishment as of yet and in the unlikely case they just put us on probation Bruce would be retained.

I believe it was more "Do you know where this is?" He admitted he knew it was a secondary violation when the players were at the house; thus, he knew he would be subject to no real punishment if he admitted it. That means that if he "panicked", it was most likely about something other than the barbecue.

Either way the conclusion was that it was dumb especially considering it looks like the NCAA found nothing else majorly wrong with the basketball program.

My quick summary of this sordid affair:
- Pearl came and brought life to a dead program and took us places we'd never been and made BB fun again
- While Pearl did some nice things there are legit questions about his coaching and player dev skills and MAY have reached his ceiling
- Pearl pushed the envelope on NCAA rules which creates its own issues, but then blatently lies to NCAA over something unbelievably stupid like a photo of his own house
- Given his past issues he had no wiggle room for this type of behavior
- This sad event provides Hamilton a possible opportunity to upgrade coaching ability with less baggage
- I'm pissed at what Pearl following Kiffin has done to the rep of this institution, I don't feel bad for Pearl, he brought all of this on himself regardless of the abritariness and fecklessness of the NCAA
- Pearl got this program off the mat, bring in someone who can take it to another level without all of the circus

If someone lets themselves be consumed by any trepidation, clearly there's something more than what we see on the surface. No one in the history of humanity has ever irrationally whipped themselves into a frenzy over nothing or something little. Someone please locate the '11 Bentley that Pearl obviously purchased for Tobias. It's so clear to me now.

I had forgotten.

You're right. It's perfectly normal to blatantly lie and engage in a wide-spread cover up of something that's about as serious as a speeding ticket.

He lied about knowing the date or location of the photo. Him already having this issue at Milwaukee caused him to forget the truth.

Nobody knows what the NCAA will do, and if they say they know, they are lying (isn't that what Pearl did?). The NCAA doesn't even know what is coming yet. It's fine to make predictions, but don't pretend to have inside information from a source at UT on something that hasn't been determined by the NCAA yet. No one at UT knows the outcome. There are so many predictions out there right now that we are almost guaranteed that someone will have "predicted" the correct answer.

Now, UT may have already made up their mind as to Pearl's fate, and some on this board may have access to that information. MH, however, said yesterday that "the current plan is to retain...Bruce Pearl". MH may mean what he says, or it may be the proverbial "vote of confidence."

If UT is penalized similar to USC in football and basketball, I'll be shocked. USC coaches also lied to the NCAA about not knowing their players were receiving benefits. Heck, they are still in denial to some degree. So, does the NCAA impose similar penalties on UT as they did USC, when Pearl lied about a barbeque, and they lied about players receiving cars, condos, money, HDTVs, etc.?
