It was the hot topic on the sports animal this morning @ 6; Bruce wants larger buyout, but tennessee doesnt want to give it since they have stood behind him through this mess. I don't think Pearl has any bargaining power in this at all so I see why the Athetic Department is frustrated with him, but they do want him to be the coach at Tennessee for a long time to come.
my bad I guess the Animal is on their game and the nonsense about the if any further violations are found yo azz is toast clause is just internet drivel dispelled by Writer 32.

Don't think that's the whole of the mess, but it sounds nice.

My thoughts on Pearl can be summed up with this quote: "people are needed, but nobody is necessary."

The comparable benchmark in recent rulings is the Dez Bryant situation, in which he was suspended for a year (as a player) for lying to the NCAA during an investigation of improper benefits. The common thought has been that if this is the standard to which players are held, then the punishment for a coach should be at least to that magnitude as coaches are held to a higher standard for the same infraction (lying to the NCAA).

Not so fast my furry friend..dez bryant and pearl are not comparable. you are comparing a player vs a coach. the ONLY punishment the ncaa can bring on a player is suspension;whether that is for one game or a season, when said player is solely responsible. with pearl being the face of the program, then, suspension, loss of scholarships, being barred from coaching are among the possibilities. I think comparing pearl to violations of other coaches will determine his punishment.

I think that's a fair viewpoint. I don't necessarily agree with it, but the simplicity of saying we understand that we cheated and are OK with that going forward is better than much of what I hear.

That's pretty much how I see it. He's learned a lesson, I think.

From my source within the athletic department:

"Bruce Pearl will not return as the coach of the UT Men's Basketball team next season."

"The NCAA WILL suspend Bruce Pearl for one year and UT will lose scholarships in addition to the self-imposed and SEC sanctions."

Credible and reliable. Book it.

If we lose scholarships, can it be McBee and Pearl Jr's, please???
